I have decided that I want to start weaning off my meds, and Abilify is my choice. Has anyone had any effects/experiences weaning off this med?

" I am weaning off Abilify and do not have any side effects (yet) except one really good crying over nothing episode. I agree that you should consult with your pdoc. I know that you have to wean off it it slowly as to not trigger an episode. I think you go down by 5/10mg every two weeks-but again, that would be up to your pdoc. Good luck in whatever you decide. HUGS! "

" Bumping my old thread, looking for possibly some more insight. I'm down to 10mg from 15, plan to go down to 5mg this Thursday, and I'm still wondering if anyone had any affects. "

" I also had horrific experiences with Abilify.

I forget the name for it but basically I could NOT stop moving. It was agony just to sit down. I would rock on the bed, pace up and down the passage, walk around the courtyard. i went cold turkey BUT I had only been on it for a week so no withdrawal, wouldn't recommend cold turkey unless that's what your pdoc says (unlikely) "

" I weaned off of Abilify under the guidance of my pdoc. I did not have a bad experience doing it. I wouldn't have stopped the Abilify except for the expense. (It was a wonder med for me.) I couldn't get any more samples from my pdoc and I couldn't afford to buy it. Good luck to you. "

" I liked that "I feel like being on so much medication is holding me back from my goals in life"...
Say WHAT!?

Why are you taking them in first place?
Oh. Because there is "something", that meds controls, that i s really holding you from your goals, unles being a BP is one of them. "

" Heh, Tadeo, that was poor wording on my part. I meant that I'm overmedicated and I want to feel more like myself again, and I feel like being on too much medication is holding me back. My goal in life is certainly not to be bipolar =)

Better? "

" I had horrible akathisia with abilify (everyone probably already knows this) it has a long half life - but I never went off of it and unmedicated and I don't recommend that. Especially if you are BP1. "

" amalzahir: I'm BP NOS. Abilify was added to my regimen because I was feeling manic, and since I've been stable for a while I want to get off of it. Plus I think it's the cause for my dizzy spells, which are really disturbing. "
