I have decided that I want to start weaning off my meds, and Abilify is my choice. Has anyone had any effects/experiences weaning off this med?

" Why do you want to wean off the Abilify, or any of your meds? Have you discussed this with your pdoc? If you are serious about wanting to go off a medication, please discuss it first with your doctor. Some can be quit "cold turkey" but others must be gradually decreased and weaned over a period of time.

I take Abilify, and I have no complaints about it. Are you having undesirable side effects? Again, talk to your pdoc. He/she may have good reason to keep you on the Abilify, or they may be able to replace it with something else if side effects are a problem for you. "

" I agree with PF, please talk to your pdoc and make sure he knows you are doing it. It may make a difference depending on what other meds you are taking along with it. I stopped it cold, but was on a low dose to begin with. I dont remember any withdrawal from it. Lithium was the one I had effects with when I stopped it. It made me hypo manic for several weeks/month. Please be careful not to trigger an episode by doing it. Hugs "

" I don't plan on doing anything until talking to my pdoc (I see him Friday) and I want to wean off a med because I feel like being on so much medication is holding me back from my goals in life, "

" Let your doc help you adjust your meds. Abilify is generally a good one. Maybe a little less of it, or less of a different one? It can be dangerous to upset the balance at this time of year. In fact, I notice lots of people are feeling dissatisfied right now. Get your doc's help. That is what they are for. "

" I was wondering what side effects you've had with abilify?
My son is on it and seems very angry and aggressive. I think it's the abilify. Not sure though ...he's also on concerta. Any tips? "

" What medications are you on Amanda? Yeah, it sucks to feel hemmed in by medications, sympathy. Hope you can work it out. "

" I'm on Lexapro, Klonopin, Abilify, and Lamictal. Side effects with all my meds were mild--Abilify tended to make me restless. I want to start weaning off a med because I want to start to feel like myself again. "

" I had the worst experience with Abilify -- I just stopped taking it. I was feeling great up until I got angry, my tongue felt as if it was as big as my face and I was trying to swallow it -- can you imagine -- this scared the living daylights out of me. I just stopped taking it. But if you want to get off its best to talk with your pdoc -- they should help. For the reply to angry child, it may be the concerta, I took abilify and felt great! but the side effects was too much. I experienced the anger when I started to take depacote. Also, look up your childs meds on the net, it will give you some help on defining which meds make your child angry. "
