I read that Eskalith is the original lithium, lithium is a generic, my grandson was on lithium, and it made his thyroid levels go up, so the pdoc weaned him off, he has been off for 3 weeks and his behaviors have gotten out of control again, so she is going to put him on Eskalith, I am confused, if Eskalith and Lithium are the same thing, wont he still have high thyroid levels, does anyone know if there is any difference in the effects of the drug.

" It is the same thing. Either his pdoc is retarded, or they're just trying to trick you into that one to get him back on lithium. ?? I don't know. "

" Yeah, at one point my doc switched me to Eskalith too. I can't remember. Is Eskalith the one that is time released? I think it is. So you don't get a ton of Lithium all at once. "

" The difference in the two COULD be the base inert additives in the capsule. I may be full of it, but that is sometimes the difference in generic and name brand--what they use to make the capsule able to work without upsets. You might check a PDR, Jackie. "

" try googling it on the net and see what results you get.

Remember that drugs have 2 names...one is the pharmaceutical name and the other is the actual drug name (ie) Moclobemide= drug name, Aurorix= pharmaceutical name but it's the same drug. Lithium Carbonate = drug name, Priadel = pharmaceutical name, both are the same drug. "

" thank you all so much for your help, Hanna I checked it on crazymeds thats how I found our it was the original, that is when I got confused, dobie maybe it is because it is time realeased, the pdoc said it was 450mg instead of the 300 he was taking before, so time released would stop it from putting to much in your body to fast, storm, he has been getting worse for a couple weeks now the past few days have gotten real bad, thats why I called the pdoc, I was getting worried about what he would do next, I will get his new med today and get him started it will probly take a few days, nana I did read an artical about the additives in genaric meds can make a big difference, lithium was really good for him he did soooo good on it I was very disapointed when it messed with his thyroid, Mela I wish they would just make one name for these meds and leave it like that, lol some of us do get confused eaisly, Thank you all again for all your help.
