" I'm on disability and unemployed due to the severe bipolar and the ECT treatments effect on my long and short term memory and cognition. I just applied for a volunteer position and hope I get it. I need to feel worthwhile again, because it's been forever since I have. I think this volunteer job would be good for me. Thank you all for sharing, by the way:) "

" I try to work 2-3 days a week as a demonstrator, and find even that hard most of the time. I have been denied 4 times for disability. Are they crazy, I made 180. last year on record. I see a lot of people are caregivers on here, which if funny because I have been tring to get a job doing that. WE MUST HAVE A SOFT HEART FOR OTHERS. I feel guility for not working, and know that really I cant. Its very hard, and others dont understand why we dont work. hummmm go figure. "

" I work full time, today was my second day on a new job. I took nine days off between this job and my last one.

Stress and not working too hard are my biggest work challenges. Homie don't do stress, it brings on the bp.

In this new job I'm going to take the middle path. I will do a good job but I won't work too hard, and I'll be easy on myself while I learn the ropes. "

" I am on disability but have been able to do jobs that offer flexibility and "give and take" employers. I am a caretaker for a boy with special needs. After some time I confided in my "boss", his mother about my disorder and that I did not have flexibility with the last child I took care of and that I needed flexibility because of so many appt. She is wonderful to work with and I always let her know how much of a joy her boy is to be with. He does not literally know what it is to be in a bad mood, he doesn't have that part activated in his brain. I think a big part of trying to have a job with this disorder is to find someone willing to be empathetic to your needs, someone that you feel you can be honest with so that when the ups and downs come they can try to work with you. The no pressure type work advice is so true also. Do something easy on the mind and body. I also do volunteer work and love it, I can do it then if things get too bad they understand I need a break. Hope this helps! "
