how many of us say "I am bipolar" rather than "I have bipolar"?

I see a lot of people saying the former... and it feels like it means BP is WHO we are and not PART of who we are...... changing one little word for me makes all the difference.......

" I don't think it matters what we say as long as we're happy with it. As long as you're happy with what you say then that's all that matters. "

" Hmmm... I think I sometimes say I am (insert illness) because it has become such a big part of my identity. I'm "the sick one" in my family.

I think i should stop saying it like that so I will feel better about myself. I AM a guitarist. I AM a mother. I Am a wife. I am NOT my illness.

That feels better.

" I'm not sure what my life would be without bipolar..since I've been shaped by (hypomanic)personality ...so I say I am bipolar.

But what ever floats your boat..say it any way that feels best to each person. "

" I am bipolar. I am a drug addict. I am an alcoholic. I own it. It is part of who I am and I have to function in such a way that I can control it all. I have bipolar disorder, I have alcoholism, I have drug addiction, I am a food addict, I have food addiction, I am a sex addict, I have sex addiction. No more denial and I don't care how I say it. "
