The worst that can happen is that you would be turned down. Is there a food bank in your area?

I dont knoe what is a Food Bank? How do I find out? Im making 1500 on SS. Plus his income I think they would turn me down.

Your SS, is not considered EARNED INCOME ....so you may not be turned down ..look in your local Phone Book for Food Banks

I don't know what the prices are like in Florida, as I'm in Illinois!!

And I don't know your financial picture and what kind of expenses you have!

But are you sure you're handling the money you DO have as effectively as you can!?

NOT a criticism!! It's just that when you try to conserve on money, a lot of the time, the only place you can cut back is in the food stores.

It's hard enough handing over the $130, but not walking out of the store with much to show for it is depressing and stressful!!

I see you have Aldi's in Florida!! Are any of them close to you and do you hit them first, before the 'regular' stores?

Even with gas prices being what they are, if there's an Aldi's that you know of but haven't gone to because it's too far away, it might be worth making the trip!!

There was a great one here!! Operation Blessings!! All volunteers and donations!!

All you had to be was poor. And as far as I remember, you din't have to 'prove' anything.

Just go in and they would give you a bag or box of food.

You get what you get, but the price is right!!

They really helped us when we were that broke.

Money is no guarantee of happiness, but it sure feels better when you don't have to struggle just to have enough food in the house!!!

We have something I cant remember what they are called ubut you get a certain size plot of ground and can grown anything you want on it. People grow vegetable on (Peapatch?) You probably have to pay something up front/ Maybe your town has something like that.

Bread stores have outlets or after hour day old sales once a week too.

A food bank is a non-profit organization that collects and distributes food to those in need. Donations for the food bank are collected all the time. School children fill up a bus with non-perishables. You can get $1 off admission to movies and fairs with a canned food item.

You might be asked to show proof of residency but I'm not sure about income. Our local food bank also gets produce from farmers, meat and other perishables like eggs and milk.

I know we all complain alot about the price of food but the U.S. does have the healthiest and cheapest food supply in the world. Good luck!

Food stamops do count your disability payments when figuring how much food stamps if any you qualify for but doesnt hurt to apply

Thanks for your comments. Its just lately unexpexted expenses have occured. 60 for pet flea meds. $800 to fix my truck. New computer we fell behind, we are apying the bills but thats it. I am gonna try and apply for food stamps, but I know I will get turned down my husband makes over 18k a year, I think thats the cutoff..
