Lamictal didn't work out

So about day 6 I started noticing that my face was feeling numb in the morning and by the evening it was very numb and my body was feeling like that too. I was itching, tingling, had a fast breathing rate and sore muscles so the Doc took me off and I see her Monday. I really had my hopes up since everyone says how wonderful Lamictal is for bpII and how much they like it.
Also I spent a big chunk of money on it to just have to toss it... fucking meds. I think I will just get back on my old stuff, at least I know what to expect with it. Posted on 08/18/12, 03:14 am |

Did your doctor let you quit it right away? I have been on it for three weeks and am sick with stomach pains and vomiting from it and am feeling miserable but my doctor said to keep taking it anyway. All I want to do is quit it but they said I might have a seizure if I just stop. Does anyone know often does that really happen?
I hope you find something that works better for you.

I've been on Lamictal now for about 6 months... everything I been reading from everyone kind of concerns me... Did your doctors tell you that the rash is a very high known side effect? Also it's something you have to start out on a very very small does and up it every 2 weeks extremely slow. Regardless though if you get the rash you get it and you have to stop immediately because it can actually result into 3rd degree burns. Overall I love the stuff... It helps with my sleep, anxiety, and of course the lovely mood swings, and aggression.... and InMyTree I don't know what the side effects are if you just quit it but if your not having a rash and just vomiting I suggest just lower it slowly so you don't put your body in shock

Sorry it didn't work out and that you feel sick too. I recently had a bizarre reaction to an antidepressant that was most unpleasant. It sucks to have to pay for something that you can't return.
It never really did the trick for me either & I'm BP2, controlling my hypomania...and I tried for over a year. I'm on Trleptal now and find that it works very well. Next time, maybe your doc can give you a starter pack, samples, etc. Hope you feel better soon. xo

Sorry to hear about the failure of this med to work...but the face itching ,,,,,,bodes not well .
I totally understand the anger about putting out big bucks for a med..take it for a few weeks , and then it doesn't work ! I really think Pdoc's should give out Sample Packs of a med , when we go through a med change ...at least until we know it's going to work . The worst one for me was Abilify...a couple of hundred bucks for a months supply, and I only took 4 pills !

Yes my Doc said quit it right away and she also did warn me about the rash.
We were titrating up slowly like we were supposed to, I just had a very bad reaction to it even so. It did not improve my mood at all, in fact I started having suicidal ideation, more anxiety, irritability and very strange thoughts. So it didn't help me mentally and was messing me up physically. I'm going to try to get back on the tegretol with the lexapro, that worked. I get severely depressed when not on an a/d and very hypo when on one without a mood stabilizer so... yea lol. Anyway, I was really hoping it would have worked out as Lamictal is supposed to be like a two in one. Oh well. Thanks for the support :)
