Discussion:
cortisone cream?

I have kind of a bad case of poison oak. My GP wanted to put me on prednisone, but I get manic when I take it. He gave me a cortisone (also a steroid) cream to apply topically instead. There is a warning on the label that "rarely", people who have reactions to steroids can have reactions to topical cortisone.

I don't really know what to do. Anyone else used this stuff?

" ARRGGH with all the horror stories I've read about Steroids and BP...have you tried Calamine lotion or a paste made of Baking Soda ?

Even an oatmeal bath is supposed to help with itchy skin

Just throw some rolled oats into the tub...add tepid water

Warning, may clog drains if you have septic system "

" i have hyperhydrosis and have to use Lydex (fluocinonide)-it is also a topical steroid-i have been using it for over 30 years-it is like a one in a gazillion chance of it ever affecting anything besides your skin (topical)-just make sure you wash your hands and dont touch your eyes-you should have no reactions like you did with prednisone it doesnt get into your bloodstream
p.s-stop scratching!!! "

" I doubt cortisone cream will affect your BP. I used it yesterday, for some kind of itch above my cast. Maybe that is why I am so down and confused today?

Just joking, I have used it lots. Prednisone makes me insane. Cortisone cream and cortisone inhalers just are not absorbed enough to make it to the brain. "
