Vitamin D and depression

I just seen on line this past week that they have been doing studies and they have been finding that vitamin d can actually help with major depression, They have not proven it yet and if it is true I am sure the drug companies dont want us going that way, They tested 3 women I believe that were taking antidepressants but added the vitamin d and they all improved with there depression, I was lacking vitamin d, My vitamin d level was low and my doctor had me start taking it, Now I would rather take vitamins and other suppliments for some of my depression, I know some meds I have to take regardless, But if any one knows of any other things that might help like different foods, Different vitamins like B complex can you let me know

" I think vitamin D iis the one you can get from sunshine as well. As I understand it, thats the idea of the lightbox for SAD. So I bet suppliments could help too. I've been bad about taking my vitamins, I'll have to make sure I do that. "

" When I started taking 2000 IU of Vitamin D, my depression lifted almost completely. I was already on WellbutrinXL and abilify so I was having mild depression at the time. I talked to my pdoc about the improvement and he said he had a couple other pts who Vit. D helped also. "

" Fish oil or flax seed oil, 4 capsules per day is supposed to help improve mood. My pdoc actually was the one who told me to start taking on or the other, it helps the mind and heart too. I have been taking a great multivitamin with extra B's for a long time now and I swear they make a difference!

Ive read the same thing about vit D and mood, as mine tends to always run low when I don't take a vit D supplement, I can tell the difference and believe in supplements wholeheartedly! With all the processing that goes into our foods anymore there is no way we get the vitamins and minerals we truly need to be as healthy as we can! "
