Break-up and still struggling a bit

My ex and I broke up two and a half years and i'm still struggling a bit. Have come a long way but still have a mixture of anger/hurt. Can't seem to get over her completely. Not sure if the bipolar has anything to do with the lack of ability to get over it after such a long period of time.
Any suggestions would be extremely helpful! Posted on 10/23/09, 11:10 am |

What happened? Did she tell you why it was over?

it was a mutual breakup but when i found out she was seeing someone else, i flipped and it still hurts. I'm more angry at this point than anything.

The anger is probably really deep hurt and a sense of betrayal. When you find yourself missing her, ask yourself what do you really miss. Don't forget you wanted to end it also. You must have had reasons. If she was cheating you have every right to be angry, but you have even more of a right to be treated with more respect. When you find yourself missing her, really ask yourself why. Is it missing her or just having a hard time with being betrayed. I'll bet it is the latter. If she was that good for you I am sure you would have tried to work things out.

thanks olddog2. The feeling is more betrayal but i do find myself missing her as too. I am trying to distract my mind but there isn't a day that goes by that i don't think of her.

I seriously doubt you are missing her -- more like missing someone's company. But you are the only person that can make you happy -- you cannot expect someone else to do that for you. It is a long road, hon.

relationships are so complex - - they involve so many emotions, and for those of us with this disorder, I swear it is so much harder to let go. I too am having a very hard time letting go of a relationship with a guy that meant the world to me. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever get over it.
The anger portion of your situation sounds like the perfect topic to speak with a good counselor on......he/she can give you tips on how to manage your anger when it comes up and the 'i miss you' feelings more effectively. :)
