I had Blue Cross Blue Shield and they sucked. I had trouble getting authorizations. Further, I had issues with them and my hospitalization.

BCBS was the first ones i looked into and they only pay 50% AFTER the $1500 deductible is paid...thats a load of crap. Im 21 so I need better coverage lol.

I agree. I don't know where you are located, but Harvard Pilgrim is the highest ranked insurance in the area. I had a $300 deductible though with my PPO. I think the co-pays in network were like $15.

It all depends on the policy you buy or your employer provides....... Mine does not consider my meds part of mental health coverage but other than that there is an annual limit of $7000 for mental health and within that they pay 80% after my $2000 deductible....... That is supposed to change in 2010 but even with the parity laws going into effect employers still do not HAVE to offer a plan with mental health at all..... just if they do it has to be the same as the health coverage.....

If you are looking at getting a personal policy.... you can but whatever policy you want but the higher the benefits the higher the premium and you can bet that if you actually use the benefits.... your rate will skyrocket...... See if your state offers an "insurance cooperative" like we have here in WI. It helps save a lot on cost.

I don't have a permanent job at the moment. I only work 25 hrs a wk, and obviously this is not enough to pay for my meds (especially serequel xr...jesus these guys really know how to stick you). You know whats cool though. I've contacted the manufacturer of the drug and explained my situation and filled out a lot of paper wk so they know I'm being honest. Guess what? They gave me a month supply for free. I'm pretty sure this will continue until my circumstances change for the better. See....some drug companies do have a heart.

stable, that's awesome. I live in MA so we have something called the MA Health Connector here with lower priced health insurance. Then we have MA Health for those who cannot afford insurance. Plus, there's subsidized insurance. Here, if you don't have insurance, you get hit with a tax.

Thanks for the advice divine ill look into that as well. And stable...thats freaking unreal! i didnt know they did stuff like that. Im not on meds at the moment though im self medicating which i know is horrible but its the cheapest right now.

In terms of meds, lots are cheap at Wal-Mart or Target. Check out their $4/$10 prescriptions. CVS, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid have similar prescription programs.

Not all drug companies will give out meds for free.....its mainly the ones that haven't gone generic yet. I'm working on getting my Geodon for free for a year.

Also, what I do to save on prescriptions is transfer them between pharmacies. Some give you gift cards for transferred or new prescriptions (CVS, Rite-Aid and Target to name a few). Then, I can use the gift card to pay for my next prescription. I have made soooooo much in gift cards, its unreal.

Also, check out Costco. You don't have to be a member to use their pharmacy, but if you are a member, you can save even more $$$$ if you don't have insurance. My Neurontin is over $135 a month everywhere else, but I can get it for only $9 at Costco. Not all drugs are cheaper at Costco (my Geodon wasn't), so you need to do price checks of drugs.
