So my doctor said if risperdal doesn't work (which it's not) we can look into getting me put back on abilify (what I was orginally on but couldn't afford) and try and get it from Canada. I thought he was kidding but apparently if you live in the US you really can get your meds from Canada and it's cheaper? Anybody know anything about this or what websites I can go to for more information. Thanks!

I'd work with your doc on this. There are many websites where you can buy meds without prescription but not all of them are legit so be cautious!

Crazy, maybe someone in this group is in Canada and/or knows of web site that will assist you. have you tried googleing name of - ordering med in Canada from states and/or med in Canada. I have dear friend that has apt in Canada but she is out of state on vacation for a mo.. when she returns I'll ask & if she knows I will post info on my DS journal for you. If she doesn't know I won't post info on journal. She will be bk by 2nd wk of Dec.
Please be very careful when ordering meds on line. you don't always get the meds that you ordered even thought meds might be labled as meds that you ordered. Mexico is another place to order meds on line. again be careful. Every state in US has a program that will assist with meds & medical assistance. it is like state insurance program. where am at it is called Share Care. Name may be diffrent in your state but your Dr and/or hospial will know what name of service is in your area. The Share Care operates on donations. Most DR's & nurses auto pay into service thur thier pay checks - as in donation is set up to be taken directly from thier pay checks. some Dr's & dentist donate thier services instead of money. If you have a Helping hands charity in your area they will also assist w meds. You might opt to check out: needymeds.com this med service says that it will assist w a person obtaining thier meds with or w/o person havimg insurance. Do you have or have you applied for SSDI ? If you applied. it takes up to 3 yrs to obtain court date and to be approved. after your approved you can applie for medicaid. w medicaid you might pay $2.00 co - pay for medical & meds. If you already have SSDI. you mightt opt to apply for medicaid. Sorry my reply is soo long. I hope that at least some of info will be benifitual.

Just thought of 1 more thing.
At your Dr office. you can apply for med assistance. There is 1 time application fee of $10.00 Also most Dr's offer slideing scale fee for medical service. the slideing scale fee is based on person income. w or w/o insurance people can obtan slideing scale fee. Every bit helps.

I agree with most of what's already been said....especially the part about CAUTION. It's virtually impossible to know who you're ordering from and the authenticity of what you're getting. Unfortunately, the only testimonials you hear are positive and never any complaints or ripoffs. Hope you do find something that's right for you, but please go about it slowly and with your eyes wide open!

I live in Canada and I can tell you for a fact that you need special permission from the Government to get medications such as Abilify. In addition to this there is a medication called Wellbutrin (who also is known as a smoking cessation medicine under the name Zyban) which also requires Government permission to be prescribed. What I find even more amusing as I know several people who are on the highest dose possible of "Zyban" and they still smoke like chimneys.
Canada is a-lot different than the US; for instance we cannot get medications such as Ambien which is a hypnotic. The hypnotic sleep med we are able to be prescribed is Zopiclone (Or Imovane a I believe it is called in the US). Canada has stricter controls on medications than the US does and it is a myth that it is easier/cheaper to obtain medications here. There used to be online Canadian pharmacies which did offer the medications at a cheaper rate BUT once you factor in the shipping costs, etc than it makes it even less worthwhile. I hope that helps. One last thing is in terms of pain medications; we cannot get Vicodin at all here. The closest we have to Vicodin is Percocet which I cannot stand due to the tylenol content. So that's Canada i a nushell. Hope that helps "eh".

I am in Canada, too. I recently saw a documentary on mail order drugs from Canada. When they analyzed the content of the drugs, most of them were just tylenol. So unless it is reputable, I would not try and get it in Canada.
From what I understand, even if you have a prescription from an American doctor, you cannot fill it in Canada. You would have to come to Canada, and get a prescription from a Canadian doctor. I think getting aid from Medicare would be your best bet. I also understand that some of the drug companies give away free samples. I have never had to do that, because our drug insurance programs are provincially run, and very low cost. My one RA drug is $1500 a month, and I copay $25 for it. Universal health care works for the sick!

Check out the different pharmacies, they all have different prices and quantities. I use "CanadaPharmacy".
