Serious Discussion re: Cannabis and BP

I have been on several mood stabilizers for months now and am still tragically depressed and cycling into hypomania about every 3-4 months. I am seriously considering using medical marijuana to help me feel more interested in the sheer act of living.

Also, I understand from internet research that some people have been able to get off (or significantly reduce) their prescription meds when they add cannabis to their therapy.

I have thought about ingesting it (since I quit cigs about 4 years ago) and even growing my own. Serious discussions only, please.

" It sounds awful..and I hate to post this publicly, but it's the only thing that makes me feel even remotely happy. I sit at work all day, can't wait to get home and smoke..and i was NOT a smoker, or pot head, or whatever you want to call it. But it quiets my mind. It stops me from crying. It makes me feel like everything will be ok. Even if it's only for a couple of hours..it's a couple of hours of peace.. "

" Like any med, marijuana and other herbal/OTC preparations give different results to different people. For instance, I stopped using marijuna due to the strong paranoia and lethargy I experienced. But that being my experience, I wouldn't
say that pot can't be beneficial and that's something you need to decide for yourself. And stock up on the munchies! "

" I use medicinal marijuana for a few things. I have a brain tumor and fibromyalgia and the weed helps control the pain as I no longer want to be dependent upon prescription pain meds. as far as BP goes I am BP 1 and spend most of my days in manic and find that marijuana keeps the manic manageable. I live in a state where medicinal marijuana is still illegal but is only a misdemeanor if you are caught with under an ounce which I figure is a damm good trade off for the stability it gives me. "

" for some people it makes them feel good, my aunt loves that stuff and i would imagine its because she probably feels better when she's high. i personally don't like that feeling. it makes me feel paranoid and my movements are jerky. its weird. i've never heard of medical mar. for BP. i know my doc would never go for that in a million years. " i consume pot for medicinal purposes both for bipolar and hiv+.
I have to be careful not to kick the arse out of it because that accentuates mania for me and makes me so high I forget to take good care of my eating and sleeping.

" My "adopted" son is BP1 and refuses Lithium. He tends towards aggressive mania, but he uses cannabis exclusively to control it. When he's out, I can watch him get wired and hyper, more by the minute.

I believe it's coming up for a vote in my state....hopefully yes...we would both be eligible (hubby and I). We just use it to completely relax before bed. I'd never substitute it for my meds, though. It helps "going" to sleep, but not "staying" asleep....that's what the Seroquel XR does. :-) "

" I would like to try marijuana. I don't think my current meds are doing enough for me. How do you get medical marijuana? "

" I must admit that I smoke. I have hand tremors and muscle cramps in my arm. It really does help. I have a dr friend who told me it was fine.
Besides, it puts me in a good mood and I get a lot of cleaning done. Its the only time I want to clean =) "

" It helps to live in a state with dispensaries. As far as I know, California is the only state with dispensaries. "
