Switching meds

I was b on abilify for the past 3 months and felt better then I ever have before! I was on the sample packets while I tried to figure out how I was going to pay for it, turns out my private insurance wont cover it and I can't find anyone else who will :( So my doc switched me to 1mg of Risperdal... and after having been on it for about a week and half now I can truly say my bipolar symptoms have come back ten fold. I actually forgot what it felt like to be "bipolar" and forgot about my symptoms now I remember, and I absolutely hate this feeling. My mom had to call the emergency number last night because I kept crying, I didn't know why, and I couldn't stop. I felt awful about my life and felt like a disgusting person. My doctor over the phone told me to up my dosage by 1/2. I'm worried that's not going to do anything and i'm really affraid of having another crying episode. Has anyone had any problems switching meds before? Is it normal to have symptoms until you're "used" to your new med or is this new med just not working at all. Any thoughts on Risperdal working/ not working for you?

" I'm in exactly the same boat. I had been taking Abilify for several years and it worked great. Sadly, my pdoc could no longer help me with samples and I can't afford it on my own. He switched me to Risperdal, but because of all the negatives I've heard about it I haven't started taking it yet. I've been off of meds (except for Klonopin) for over a week. Good luck to you. I hope you can find a med that works. "

" I haven't been on either but was on Seraquel. The does I was on cost me about 850 a month with my insurance and a special program the county offered. I do not qualify for anything once I have insurance and my assets (not much to but much) even though I don't work. I made a statement to my pharmasist and they found a county program which gave a % off nothing to fill out they just handed me a card because I was a resident. So ask everywhere. They switched my meds again not on Saphris (new) looks like it is going to be about 600. Learned insurance does not cover new drugs. Have read a lot about older meds working just as well with the cost being around $50.

We are all just a case study :) "
