I don't know. I ran out of lithium once and was taking an anti-depressant at the time. Instant mania, arrest and end of marriage. Before I started lithium I was being hospitalized on a yearly basis. No hospitalizations after I started lithium. I like that. A lot of people stop lithium and go on another stabilizer. I don't know anyone who just quit lithium. Doesn't sound good since we tend to take lithium for serious reasons.

ya I am swelling up and my dr. thinks it is because of the lithium and I am scared to get off of it that it might have bad side effects of coarse I would be put on another stabilizer just scared. other than that I love lithium but thx for the input.

I loved Lithium too but had to stop taking it. I was only on six hundred mgs. but I just quit taking it all at once and didn't have a problem. pdoc said I didn't have to taper but could just stop taking it. I was also taking Lamictal at the time so could be why I didn't experience any problems getting off of the Lithium. If you get on another mood stabilizer you shouldn't have a problem I wouldn't think but everyone is different.

I was off for years but they just kept trying different other drugs and then adding more and more. I'm hoping I can just go back to Lithium. I think I had good results last time but I've been on so many drugs it's hard to remember back that far!!!!

Lithium can become hard on your kidneys and liver. Cymbolta has done well with some of my other friends. Also if you are a woman it has some hormone help also.

I stopped taking my lithium quite a few months ago and never noticed anything, I did start taking one pill a day instead of two first though. But I was not recommended by my doctor as I did not consult him before stopping the medication.

i stopped it abruptly and it mmessed with my chemical imbalance but i am back on it now trying to get it back in my system again

i just recently got off a low dose, and i haven't noticed any side effects. just feeling a whole lot better than i was on it!

I also feel no side effects. Glad to be rid of it to tell you the truth. I can finally feel again. I'm not a zombie anymore. I can finally think.

I stoped taking it and i was taking 900 mg dosage. I weaned off over a weeks time span... and i stopped b/c i was pregnant. I became VERY depressed. Almost like a crash after a manic episode. I ended up miscarrying and starting the meds again.
