Low Dose Lithium?

Does anyone else get any therapeutic benefit out of a low dose of lithium where it hardly even shows up in your blood?

I have been taking 150mg to 300 mg a day. I am still afraid of drying out on it as I live in a very dry climate. And I don't want my hair to thin or fall about before it's good and ready.

I think when I take 300mg. I feel kind of calmer.

Just wondering if anyone else gets some help out of low dose lithium. Or, what was the lowest dose you could get away with without some of the side effects I mentioned?

Thanks!

" It's not even at a theraputic level. It's not going to do anything.
Usually people get put on 900 mgs. to start.
Hair falling out? I never heard of that happening on Lithium.
I think it's one of the safest drugs to take. It changed me life for the better. "

" I was on 1200mg and went toxic; went down to 1050mg sitl toxic; down to 900mg was a little better but made me hypo or at least very hyper and out of control. I'm now on 750mg and still feel it's too much but we'll see. I am losing my hair with lithium too. My doctor says some people have a low tolerance to lithium and can function on a lower dose. "

" I'm in 1200mg pf Lithium. it had changed my mania episodes for the better! my mania used to horrible. reckless driving and high risk behaviors. it's changed my life for the better definitely
getting the levels done sucks but if the drug helps, than that's a small price to pay.
i've never been on a dose lower than 900 so I'm not sire if such a.low dose would really do...no hair falling out. I've been on it for years
...drugs do effect ppl differently so I can't say really. "

" Thanks for the comments. I guess it is not worth bothering with them other than lithium has some benefits in low doses in protecting from further damage in the brain due to episodes.

I tried to take it again after not for a bit and just 300 mg really screwed my guts and intenstines up. Not sure what happened with that. It didn't do it before. I mean it was really bad. I had to take pepto bismo three days in a row and I still felt bad. "

" Hmm maybe it's the lithium making me sick been on 1200mg for a few months. I just figured it was the 1000mg Depakote ER my pdoc added last month. I've been so sick I can't even keep soup and powerade in/down. I've lost 30lbs in 2 weeks. Haven't seen pdoc yet been going to walk in clinic @ hospital. "

" I'm on 450 ER (Extended Release) And I already know its not at the right levels yet. I'm still pretty manic most of the time. Only thing I really feel is being very very dehydrated (My fault! I hate water and drink soda's) and I'm also experiencing memory loss pretty badly (But it was already bad from Xanax abuse a year ago). I'm happy to report a full head of hair :) Talk to your doctor if you are worried about it. "
