do you think our society should ban people with BP or any kind of mental illness to practice nursing?

" Should i give nclex a shot?

NCLEX is A Written Test Right? I Say Take It

It sounds like you have the mind for nursing and just need to work on your clinicals a little bit.

As for anxiety: are you afraid of hurting a patient? I've had proceedures done to me that were not the most comfortable but they had to be done. "

" Hello thanks for all the kind words.I have many plans such as working in the hospital, taking up masteral (so i could teach), taking up the NCLEX (an exam), go into training about hemodialysis, and do some volunteer work. But right now i really don't feel like doing anything, not because I dont want to, but i feel this anxiety. You see my previous training in the icu is very traumatic to me because all the nurses there, they know that something is wrong with me, others are actually laughing at me. Anyway I realized that i have to be cured first. Especially with my anxiety which is the barrier in my goals. I dont know if my concentration memory and focus would improve. I am being cured for depression for almost 2 and a half years, and still, my cognitive functioning is not back to being intact. Thats my biggest frustration. I can do all my plans above, only if my symptoms would improve. Thats the bottom line (i just realized it right now). It doesn't matter what to do first. Right now i have to focus on myself.Because right now my self esteem is really low, and i dont have much confidence in myself. I guess i should work out on that first. Am i making sense?About patience, yeah its really hard to be patient, esp when u want sumthing badly. It wont hurt if i would fix myself first right? "

" no way. sam, i am a nurse and i have bipolar disorder. and i know many people in the medical profession in many different fields of it who suffer many different types of mental health problems.
hey look at kay jamison.
most people enter work areas of interest usually because they have had some kind of personal interest in it, what ever that may be, so it not unusual for health professionals to have health problems or for them to have loved ones that do, what ever the health problem is.

" I have had experiences with different doctors and nurses. One nurse practitioner told me that there are many professionals in the medical field who have a bi-polar or some form of mental condition. The main thing is they manage it and exceed in their profession and are more understanding toward others who have similar conditions. The other thing is it depends on how they do their job and interactions with clients and patience. As long as their circumstances and condition do not interfere with a persons ability to do their job they should not be banned. "

" hi,
it's funny this is happening to you because i was recently told by my advisor that she does not think i am emotionally stable to do student teaching next semester ( i am in a master's education program with a 3.6 gpa).

a classmate complained about working with me in a group project to this advisor. As a bipolar, I think its common to elaborate on things to people. I did this with my classmate, and told her some personal things about myself, although I did not tell about being bipolar. i felt so hurt that this classmate would go to my advisor and use a conflict from a group project she and had i along with details about my family to use it against me.

at first i was really upset, but now i wonder if the surface of this situation is actually a chance for me to rethink being a teacher?

like nursing, teaching is really stressful and there are things that each job calls for that may not be avoided and might trigger overthinking and/or anxiety.

this may not be the best to write, but i too feel like you. ive worked really hard too, and i am very annoyed that i was told i cant student teach and that I should take a break for while. who are these people to make a judgement about me- certainly not doctors (and even still I would question it)!

Sam- some of the best advice i heard was this: " Try it out. If it doesn't work, try something else until you find something that works." I mean, certainly we dont have any other option, right? "

" I was a nurse for several years as well and ended up specializing in psych
I realize you have having a real problem with anxiety re ? work right now
Is it possible you may have an anxiety/panic disorder. If so this can be treated. There are so often concurrent illnesses in mental health
Once the symptoms are controlled I think you can move forward with alot more ease. You may want to consider having this evaluated with your doctor
I wish you well "
