Would be grateful for feedback.
The other day while I was shopping at my local supermarket I heard a song on the loudspeaker. Didn't recognize the song or the woman singer. To be honest the lyrics weren't that clear to me either. What I got out of it was the exuberance of her singing. I understood the general consensus was to believe in yourself. You are a wonderful person. These are gist of its lyrics..

While I think many people, if not the vast majority of persons would only think of what I heard as upbeat. Well yes it is. That's my opinion too. However I felt an overwhelming sense of sadness. It wasn't her singing. She sang very well. It was the thought that there are such a vast number of individuals who never hear this important message.

The 2012 US Center for Disease Control statistic for one of the leading cause of death for 18 to 24 US population is suicide. Not certain exactly how to determine how significant this fact is. However I do feel that suggests there is a real problem here. How much of these kill themselves because of whatever mood disorder. How many because of what they see as insurmountable circumstances? What percentage are killing themselves for the reason that nobody cares for them. When I wrote reason I meant this is their perception.

I began to reflect on the recent guilty verdict of Dharun Ravi and his spying of room mate Tyler Clementi. The result Mr.Clementi fatally threw himself over a bridge. Now some may think its obvious the result. The fact is one of my women friends threw herself over a similar bridge where she and I are living. She lived to tell the tale.

How this incident illustrates the dangers of bullying. How teenagers and college students and perhaps even older are victims of bullies. How being constantly bullied can be so devastating it can and does lead to ending one's life. There is a real term. Its bullycide. Its causing the victim of bullying to commit suicide because of bullying. There are several cases of this happening due to off and online bullies.

Its not only at the time of being bullied. I know of a case where the person's encounter with the bully happened decades ago. The impact was so terrifying the men involved are still terrified of the man who bullied them. Yes this phenomena can impact its victims for the rest of their lives.

What is the world coming to when there are those who treat others so emotionally harshly that the victim loses their entire sense of self esteem. Or those who forget or never knew they are worthwhile beings are pushed over the edge by others who take advantage of the other person's negative self image.

I suppose what I'm trying to express is try as much as you can to let who you know they are worthwhile.

Here's a related poem I wrote.

I heard a song at the local supermarket
On the loudspeaker blaring
It came on like guns a blazing
loud, bold and somewhat daring.
Listened to the lyrics as I did my shopping.
When I noticed the exuberant thoughts expressed
I felt like stopping.
The words went something like You are truly beautiful
You are truly a worthy in your own sake
Don't ever let anyone put you down
from the very first moment in the morning when you wake
Until you're ready to retire for the night, give or take.
I was overwhelmed by its positive message
of believing in yourself and knowing your worthwhile
that initially (at first) I began to smile.
Then as she continued singing with such enthusiasm.
Instead of continuing to feel joyfulness
I thought of those who never knew or
forgot how precious they are
For the many who don't realize how they
deserve love like others.
Who feel they are broken souls.
That they are undeserving of
the happiness that is there.
Who most need to hear this song
and its uplifting message
who think that no one can understand their pain.
How they feel that they don't deserve to be loved.
If only they knew how wrong they are
Yes I realize it takes much than a song
to help them to know.
Maybe its not so much what I heard that day
but the hope that somehow those lost souls
will realize how deserving they too,
like any other good person,
in realizing how truly wonderful we are.

" Lovely post and poem Mug. I can tell you one thing people who are bullied must to learn to use their voice. Scream it out if they must. I am a person who has been bullied in many ways thru life.

People need to learn it is okay to ask for help..to learn assertiveness, find self worth, learn to let go as to not build up resentment and self hared. And let themselves be inspired. My daughter is also going thru this now..but getting the support she needs thru therapy and the school. "

" Lovely post and poem Mug.
Thanks Merrymay.. I was offered to submit to a consumer poetry journal the other day.
I agree bullied people must learn to use their voice. As you wrote to learn to be assertive. Find self worth. I think finding, realizing self worth is vitally important. I think everyone can use encouragement.
I can relate to being effected by bullies. Especially in highschool
