I had BP in August of 08. While I experienced slight facial sagging on the left side of my face, my biggest symptom was the horrendous headaches. Since then, off and on I will experience these headaches...Lately though, I have been awakening in the middle of the night with these horrendous headaches again, definitely concentrated on the left side of my head. My eye, ear, cheek and even teeth, both up and lower on my left side hurt like hell... I take Ibuprofen it backs it off, but I'm left feeling tingly on my left side and feel like my brain is bruised... Has anyone else had this kind of experience?

I am thinking maybe this is just a coincidence, unless your Bell's actually originally started with headaches. rather than actual sagging of the facial muscles. Mine actually started with blurring of the vision on the left side and then the muscles sagged. I only got pain, quite horrendous pain as you describe, about a week later to the original symptoms.
It's only natural that you are going to be hypervigilant, this is a horrible condition. Made worse by the fact that because it's not life threatening people around you are less sympathetic to the horror of it. Try to relax, continue taking the Ibuprofen, but to be honest I find that Codein is the only thing that works for me, although I only take one 60mg tablet at night so I can sleep because the pain seems worse when I lie down. Hopefully this will not be a recurrence for you, but rather just an awful coincidence. However if I were you I would go and see the doctor and explain and perhaps he can give you some Prednisone just in case.

I found out I had BP a little over 2 weeks ago & even with the Prednisone I still had these sharp headaches on the paralyzed (left) side, that would only last a few minutes. Taking an ibuprofen helped me too. Fortunately my BP went away, although I still get small headaches on the one side, in the back of my head. Hope you feel better, the best thing to do is relax, and maybe see a doctor if you don't see any improvement. Good luck!

Thanks so much for both of your replies. I shut off the ceiling fans and viola.. I started sleeping through the night again. I do suffer occassional, minor flare-ups and I'm beginning to think that it's also stress related. It is most definitely the BP though, because any and all pain, when I have it, is solely concentrated to my left side.

I had Bell's Palsy on the left side of my face in May, and it went away in about 3 weeks, though I still had noticeable cold sores in my mouth for a long time afterwards, so I think there was a bad virus involved--also I did have recent dental work in that area! I seem to be left with some left eye dryness, not too bad. I had prednisone and took sublingual B-12 lozenges, under the tongue, a lot while I had it. I just wand to say, I've been wondering whether the herb Boswellia which is supposed to be good for "inflammation," might help. They give prednisone for inflammation. (I think I'd still take the prednisone, though.. It's only for a short time, and I'd do anything to be sure the condition lasted as short a time as possible.) I also have chronic neck pain, with 2 bad disks and ligament damage from a car accident six years ago, and recently started taking Boswellia for that. The store was out of Boswellia when I had the Bell's, so I never tried it then.

Thanks for that tip! I'll check it out and the next time I go see my doctor, I'm going to tell him that I'm stll suffering side affects... I had fans on last night and started back up with that now familiar headache. I've taken to wearing a hoodie here in the house and I'm fine. of course, I feel like an idiot, but at least we're not sweltering from the heat. I'm beginning to think that this may be a condition that I'll have for the rest of my life...

I had BP in August 2007. Most of the paralysis went away after about two weeks though I still have some that is very minor. The pain never went away though and I end up experiencing a lot of what you described. I began to watch for triggers and have found that the worst moments occur during weather changes. It is also occasionally affected by stress. The stress I can help, but I don't know what to do about the weather. I know that doesn't help you, but know that you are not alone.

Actually, your reply helped immensely. I'm just relieved to know that there is someone else to seems to be more susceptible as well. I understand what you're saying about triggers. I just never considered factoring in weather changes as well. Because yes, I've noticed that stress factors in and I simply cannot take any type of breeze blowing on my head. My family laughs at me, I have the air unit on as well as the ceiling fan and I end up wearing a hoodie just to keep my head covered... Hey... what can I say...? it works... :)
