Obama's Wee-weed up comment

I am kind of annoyed by a comment Pres. Obama made last Thursday, Aug 20. He said Washington was getting all Wee-weed upover health care specifically and issues in general. It was later explained that the phrase meant that those concerned were a bunch of "bed-wetters." I resent having my issue used as a general dismissal of others concerns.
Even if I didn't already wet the bed I might start based on the prospect of having the Gov't take over health care. It is a scary thing. But politics aside, it hurts to have people say stuff like that. I was curious how others felt. What other group could we use to bash people? Do we need to contact the anti-defamation league? Should we start our own advocacy group or stage a sit in? Any thoughts. Posted on 08/30/09, 07:08 pm |

There's always going to be mockery of bed-wetting. I just don't let anyone know about it except for close family and one or two friends.
Also, the NHS has provided excellent healthcare for 61 years, and was set up in a time when the UK's economy was damaged by war. As a child I recieved free medical help and counselling to deal with my bedwetting.

I had actually heard that. At first I was upset, but now I have just let it go. I don't think he was trying to dismiss anything about bed wetting problems. To me, it came across as him meaning everyone was getting "pissy". I think he was just trying not to use inappropriate words. Too bad he ended up stepping in it. I don't think he would have chosen those words if he knew how offensive they were to people who have to deal with these problems. For me at least.. its just better to let things like this go when it doesn't seem intentional.

I am surprised by all of the "upset" comments about the President's off handed remark. I suppose all of you upset people have never heard any of the radio talk show people refer to "Bed-Wetting Liberals!"?

Dmill,
Amen and amen! Let's put an end to elevating this post to the top of the list, and get this political rubbish out of what is supposed to be a health support group. There are plenty of political groups to complain about things, whether you come from the left or right. Certainly neither side has a monopoly on using "bed-wetter" as a derogatory term, nor is this usage limited to the political arena. More public awarenesss of this as a medical condition is needed, agreed. Let's keep the politics out of it though!
