Why do children wet the bed?

My step son has been peeing in odd places, like in his clothes hamper, towels on the floor, the rug in front of the toilet. He knows that he has done it, so he must be somewhat consious when it happens, but he refuses to tell anyone. We only find out when the stench gets unbearable and the thing has to be thrown out.

He is 11 yrs old and started doing this about 1 year ago, when his mother dropped out of his life almost completely. I'm guessing there is a connection here, but how do you deal with it and correct it?

" Strange. Maybe he's sleepwalking or doesn't realize he's done this until after it's already happened. If he's doing it deliberately that's a behavioral issue, and probably not related to any cause of bedwetting.

if you do a quick google search about people peeing in weird places, it usually seems to coincide with drinking. Since he's 11, that's probably not the issue! But the result is the same, so maybe he has some sleep issue that's preventing him from realizing what's going on until after it's happened. "

" See I was thinking it may be deliberate, but my husband disagrees with me. He definately doesn't have a drinking problem.....so I think that is out for sure. I'll have to look into the sleep issue as well. Thanks for your input. "

" This sounds more like a behavior issue to me. I would consider having him evaluated by a childrens therapist. Children can have unusual ways of dealing with things and may not always be up front with their parents. Try to find out if he has been having problems at school, etc. "
