and it really made me mad. It doesn't really seem to embarrass me anymore as much as it makes me mad. I get mad because I've made my bed with one of my favorite thick comforters, padding to make the bed more comfortable and sleeping in nice clothes. Then I wet and my made-bed that is really nice is totally ruined. You know what I noticed, I noticed that I can never have nice, thick and expensive blankets like I want to because I'll just end up ruining them with my bed-wetting. It's so frustrating. What is worse is that none of my family ever wanted to sleep with me because of my bed-wetting problem. Even NOW they don't and I'm almost 18. It's just embarrassing because whenever I want to sleep at my sister's, she gets out a garbage bag or something to cover up the place I'm sleeping on and she apologizes for it, she just doesn't want anything ruined which I understand.
One time it was really bad, I slept at her place on her favorite futon, the night before her wedding day and I had wet. Well, I forgot to put a garbage bag on the futon so it totally messed it up. I was soo panicked and tired, it was like 4 in the morning and I had gone to bed around 11PM to 12AM. I was exhausted and I sat there for about an hour or two wiping up the stain, using a hair dryer, towels, sprays, cleaners and paper towels. Ugh, never want something like THAT to happen again. Luckily the stain dissapeared and it didn't smell after that. My mom would always yell at me too about how there was so much laundry to do because of my bed-wetting. UGH. OFF TOPIC, so I wet last night and it made me mad because for some reason, the sheet I used must of had dye in it or something because I had a white tank top on and when I took off my tank top, the whole back of it had purple dye and stuff all over it, it was really weird. It was one of my fav tank tops. Just wanted to vent a little. Posted on 03/20/09, 02:03 pm |

Sorry to hear that -- this problem is definitely maddening sometimes!
One thing I've done to help with sleeping over with family and friends (good friends who know what's going on anyway) is to get one of those washable waterproof bed pads (with cloth on one side and plastic on the other). You can get them for like $5 or $10 at Target or Kmart, and they're a lot more comfortable to have under you to sleep than garbage bags or anything like that! I just fold it up and stick it in my overnight clothes bag, and then when I go to bed, put it underneath the sheet (cloth side up) under wherever I'm sleeping, and then if an accident happens it's MUCH easier to clean up. That can be a big help if you only wet occasionally and don't want to mess with pull-ups or something anytime you go anywhere! It's frustrating about the blankets, I know... but if you find one that can stand up to repeated washings, then you can probably still have a pretty nice one. You could try putting an extra top sheet between yourself and the blanket when you sleep -- sometimes that can be the difference between the blanket being wet or dry, so you may be able to just wash the sheets and not the top blanket every time.

I totally understand. When I was growing up, my family took the "if we don't talk about it, it doesn't exist" approach to my wetting. I had many of those 3am wakings and trying to clean everything up so I didn't get yelled at.
It is so frustrating. One thing I have found is that IKEA sells these really thick fabric covers for comforters, that keep the comforters almost always dry. Just take the cover off and wash it. Plus, they're really soft and nice and come in all different designs. *Wishing you well!*

jackjacki, even if you only bedwet occasionally, please consider wearing diapers to bed. The decision whether to wear diapers or not was made for me years ago; I have no choice. However, if diapers give you a good night's sleep, protect your bedding, and allow you to waken refreshed, use them. Good luck.

I have had the problem for 37 years and learned to live with it. Something I know I cannot control and still will do.
My parents never did yell at me for it. To this day, my dad keeps one of those pads ready when I come to visit. They are very handy to have around.

I have a 12 year old son who always wet the bed! It was a problem for him whenever he went to friends houses for sleep overs, and whenever he was at home I would get upset with him!
I took him to the DR's and found out that it's just not him being lazy that he does have a problem. My family Dr put him on a medication called DDAVP Melt. Ever since he has been on the medication he has not wet the bed once! You may want to look into that. Take care! Teresa

I can see how it can make you mad. I'm 33 and I still wet the bed sometimes. I woke up wet this morning.
