My parents tried an alarm, I also slept right through it. My advise is to not do anything. Have him change his own sheets if he can, get him diapers if he wants, and love and support him. He will either "grow out of it", or he won't. I never did.

Hi,
I'm from the UK to :) I'm not sure if I can help because I think my problem is quite unusual, but anyway maybe I can help a bit with what happened with me. I have had similar issues with not waking to alarms and peeing several times in the night as your son. I have one of the Malem alarms from E.R.I.C. (http://www.ericshop.org.uk/alarms.asp) which has different sounds and vibrates. Alarms are supposed to be really good (the best thing) but they just made me really tired but didn't stop the problem. I have also had drugs, biofeedback and even hypnosis but nothing worked. Finally my Doctor referred me to a urologist and I had EMG Urodynamics tests (horrible with tubes stuck in you!), an MRI scan and a SEP test (Somato-Sensory Evoked Potential). At the end of all that the urologist said I have a small bladder capacity and a 'sphincter muscle' that does not work properly. I may get an operation to have an artificial spincter muscle, but I have to finish puberty when it gets considered again. Unfortunately I have to just put up with it until then. It really pissed me off that I was 13 before the doctor took it seriously and refered me to a urologist. Everyone said I would 'grow out of it' but that was bullshit. Basically this problem really messes with your head and stops you being able to stay over with friends, so I think it would be good to ask your son if he wants to get properly checked out (because the tests are really embarressing) but at least you will know what is wrong. Then you can ask your GP if you can see a urologist and dont take no for an answer! I use drynites sometimes but not always and don't use pull-ups or anything if he doesn't want them because they are embarressing too. I try not to drink much in the last two hours before bed and to go to the toilet just before bed even if I can't get much out but I will get a drink if I'm really thirsty. Anyway, good luck, keep trying! :) Jake

Yeah my moms tried the alarm thing on me too. I slept through it mostly too only waking her. I was totally soaked by the time it woke me up. I think it cause we sleep so deep.
Encourage your son and show him support. On the best things my moms did was not make a big deal about the fact I was still peein my bed at my age. She just would say it something we had to deat with. Jordan

Thanks you so much for your messages i will show them to my son. i am very lucky to have a friend whos son is now 18 and had the same problem so he has always known its connom and its ok, i have never made an issue of it and am really supportive , we have bed mats and speacial quilt and we just deal with it. i have an appointment with my GP tomorrow luckily i used to work at my GP's so know her very well so have no worries about getting him refered. I also hate the fact this isnt seen as a problem till you have gone through puberty as that is the time when you most want to have friends over and stay at theres. we do use dry nights occasionally but only as an emergancy as he reacts to them and ends up with spots all over his bum (im sure he will love me for telling you that lol) ill update tomorrow when ive seen GP
but thanks again its been so brill getting replies !!!
