My wife wants to ask her friend to put on a plastic sheet when we fly out to their house this weekend.
It would basically be tellingher that I have a problem, odd are against me having an accident and leaking. She would rather tell than not tell. Posted on 01/07/09, 06:01 pm |

I was wondering id you could maybe ding your own p;astic sheet and put it on discrettly before you go to bed, I am assuming you have a private bedroom, which may or may not be the case. Or maybe double up and the diapers and plastic pants to make sure their are no leaks.

Joey,
Forgive me for asking, but have you been tested for sleep apnea? My son ( 20 years old) suffered from enuresis his whole life. I had him tested for sleep apnea and he has not had one single episode since. If you think about the association between sleep apnea and enuresis it makes a lot of sense. You may not think that you have sleep apnea, but at least get tested. My son was willing to try anything, and my guess is you are the same way. Obviously the medical profession has done little in studying this problem. Take it upon yourself, be proactive and try it. I wish you luck.

I am sorry. I should have addressed my comments to grilledchess and not to Joey, but they apply to anyone who suffers or has a loved one that suffers from this.

I would be up front about the bedwetting and ask your host to put one of those plastic bedwetters mattress pads on the bed. I would also tell your host that you will be wearing thick diapers and plastic pants so that your host knows you are trying to keep the damage to a minimum. We all know even our thick cloth diapers and plastic pants leak from time to time and ruining the mattress is unexcusable.

I hope your weekend went ok... but it sounds like there are bigger issues going on than just protecting your friends' beds when you travel. I mean, couldn't you (or your wife) have just brought your own plastic sheet in your travel bag and just slipped it onto the mattress without advertising to anyone about it? That way if you don't have any leaks no one has to know anything... and if you do, the mattress will still be protected so there should be no reason for them to be upset about not being told in advance.
"She would rather tell than not tell"... Do you think your wife gets some sense of pride or enjoyment in telling other people about your condition? If so it sounds like you need to sit down and have a talk about it to find out why this is, and make sure she knows how you feel about the situation and that your feelings do matter. If she is going out of her way to embarrass you needlessly, then something needs to change. If she won't listen to your concerns, then maybe you could try talking to a counselor about it?
