Advice:
10 yr old wetting the bed

My soon-to-be step-son just turned 10 and he is still wetting the bed almost nightly. To my knowledge he has never seen a doctor to rule out bladder problems or kidney problems. To his family this is a "sore" subject and it's kept hush-hush. He wears Goodnights but usually soaks them on a nightly basis. I can't get him to understand that he needs to empty his bladder before he goes to bed to see if that will help. I have asked his dad what they have tried and he said nothing. So any suggestions?

" Rebecca03,
If the boy and his dad have not done so already, they need to see a doctor about this. Most likely there will be nothing wrong, and he'll outgrow it eventually. Still, only a doctor can tell that, and not dealing with a genuine threat could be devastaating. If GoodNites, UnderJams, or some other protection works until then, wonderful. He still needs to see a doctor. "

" I would have him see a doctor to rule out any physical problems. Sometimes parents do not want to admit there is anything "wrong" with their children and ignore the whole situation, as his family seems to be doing. I would cut his drinks off at least two hours before bed time, make him go to the bathroom before bed (yes, even if you need to stand outside the bathroom door to listen). If he soaks the Goodnights, then I would check and see if there are adult diapers to fit him. "
