hello eveyone, I just got back from the doc and received my MRI report. though there are some changes nothing to worry about at this time. We did however talk about the fact that i have 1 leg shorter then the other. My doc feels this is really the main problem at this point. I need to get a special orthotic to wear in my shoe. Does anyone out there have 1 leg shorter then the other and did it help the pulling and burning pain going down your leg

" I am not sure yet , I will go next week to the orthotic place, I will let you know what type as soon as I find out. If it helps the doc said some type of lift in the shoe. "

" I found out back in April from my pain management doc that my left leg is 7mm shorter than my right due to the curves in my back and the surgeries I have had. I was prescribed a 5mm heel lift and it has made a huge difference. The pain in my hips and legs have improved by at least 50%. I have also started wearing Z-coil footwear and they have further decreased the pain. These shoes are expensive, but well worth the money since they, along with my orthotic, have givien me the ability to stand and walk for much longer periods of time. I strongly recommend you try the orthotic you were prescribed. "

" Trish, As a professional bodyworker, I'm a member of several yahoo groups. We all try to help others help their clients that have pain. This gentleman whose email address is: michaelredturtle either wears an orthotic or works with clients that do. I don't remember but you may want to drop him a line; maybe he can point you in a good direction or answer questions.

" I just got my orthotic this week from my doctor so it is a little early to say but I have been wearing heel gel inserts and such from drugstores for a couple years already to help with the shorter leg problem I have which is a little over half an inch. The orthotics e you get from the doctor are firmer and takes a little getting used to but its built to last and not collapse and wear out as the ones you get at the drugstore do. It is also custom made to your foot so this should be much better in the long run. I am finding it to be only slightly uncomfortable, not in the fit, as it fits my foot perfectly just in the firmness of it, esp in the heel area. The instructions say to build up to wearing in one hour increments per day, I am already able to wear it 8 hours without any discomfort to speak of, but I may be purchasing a thin gel insert to just go over the entire foot surface to help with cushioning it.

I find it has helped greatly with my pain in the past couple of years, (wearing a lift to help even out the leg lengths). Even a leg length diff of half and inch which I have can cause a lot of pain. "
