Thanks for your warning on this drug, I have watched a friend of 17 years go completely crazy on this very same drug, but not know why. Maybe now, I can tell her and she will get off the drug. She just about drove me crazy with in,, kept coming in my room and starting fights and all of that kind of stuff, and for no good reason. It got so bad that I had to leave my house and go to my daughters house for the week, and the home is mine. This is the second week I had to leave my home because this woman is so crazy. She is pschyzophrinic on top of it and was about to drive me loony tunes. So it could be this medicine that is doing it.I am sure that I will mention it to her. Thanks Kase

I have been on Lyrica for the past 2 months and it has been a life saviour. I started on 25mg twice a day and recently increased to 75mg twice a day. It is one of the best things I have ever taken and I will continue to take it as long as needed. For almost 7 and a half years I did not have proper pain control and now with 150mg of Lyrica and Oxycontin 40mg three times each day I now can at least have decent pain control. All I can say is thank bloody god for Lyrica.

I forgot to mention that my husband has a friend who has been on a high dose of Lyrica for 5 years now and it is the only drug which has done anything for his severe nerve pain which forced him to be pensioned off from his job. I also recently met a lady who is on it as well and suffers from nerve pain and has great success with it. If you look into any drug there is the danger of them causing horrible side effects. Even plain asprin wouldn't be taken if you knew what it could really do to a person. I have in my possession a very large drug book. I have in the past taken antidepressants which have caused me to become even more severely depressed than before taking the drugs.

That is a horrid experience with Neurontin. I must say though it is like any drug, it can cause big bad side effects in some and not in others. I think most drugs in this family and psychotropics can possibly have the side effects of anxiety and personality changes. I have taken Neurontin since November '06 at a baby dose until March '07 and now for quite some time I have been on 2400 mgs a day. It helps with the nerve pain and some muscular pain but not the Fibro pain for which it was originally prescribed. This is one of the few drugs I can tolerate and have had only one side effect that I am aware of, memory loss. I already have memory loss due to Fibro and Neurontin compounded the problem but for now I will live with that until better treatment is found for me. Oh and I got FAT but at this time we are not sure if it is from neurontin in which that is a common side effect or hypothyroidism which my doc has ordered testing for. Again I am sorry to hear how badly your mom suffered from Neurontin.

I am sorry that your mother had that reaction to Neurontin, but like any other drug, it can help other people, so making a "blanket statement" about it is negative.
I was on Neurontin for a year and a half because of nerve issues before I had my SCS installed, and it worked fabulously for me. I know of others that are in Neurontin and Lyrica that have been also doing well.

So like any other drug, beware of what you take and if it causes side effects that you do not like or that make you feel out of control, talk to your Doctor ASAP!

neurontin is my miracle drug, this is the only thing out of like twelve medicines that has affected my pain at all, although it does make me feel a little stoned

I agree it is a personal thing i have taken lyrica and it did nothing but make me gain weight. I take neurontin 800mg a day and it works wonders. Sorry your mom had a bad experience. Good luck.

I really have to say this too....RUN FROM THIS GABA DRUG!
I got extreme depression from it, caused my moods to swing extremely, with thoughts of suicide!. NEVER HAVE I THOUGHT OF SOMETHING LIKE THAT BEFORE. I rather live in pain!
So Sorry your mother experienced this too! And very glad you were there to support her decision to get off it. I hadnt heard about any side effects of this drug before I took it, yet heard about others being taken off shelves for same thing. Lyrica is another I'm not sure about, dont think I ever took that one, some are doing good on it it seems, but this Gabapentin was hell (and I never went over a simple 400 mg!) almost had another stroke on it like that damned one they sued for a few yrs back I took. I got a hip injection instead, and it helped me stay out of a wheelchair at least....I'll pray for your mother!

I think some people are forgetting that Neurontin and Lyrica actually help some people and are the only drugs that work. I don't think it's totally fair to say to run from it. Like my self and others Lyrica has been a life saver. From being in constant pain and 2 hours sleep each night to at least some normality now. Each drug affects people differently,but I don't think it's fair to make it sound like it's poison when it does help so many who suffer and who otherwise would be continuing to live in absolute hell.
