I really really want to get into cycling. For fun, for the earth, and because I live in a city and don't have a driver's license. I have a herniated disk (L5S1) that has been extremely painful to the point of not being able to get out of bed before, but is almost fine now unless I do a lot of walking or standing around in crappy shoes. Does/has anyone here cycled with a herniated disk by any chance? Is it a bad idea?

" Have you asked your Doctor or Physical Therapist if cycling is a good idea for you???? We don't know what type of issues you have, so ask the Doc. I know that my Doc told me that walking is the best thing that I can do for me and my situation, so you need to check with you Doc. "

" Hi, I have a friend at curch and she had hip surgery. Her Dr told her to exercise she has a three wheel bike that is very comfortable you can go on schwinn.com and try to find one she brought hers from there they are a lot more expensice then a regular bike but I was looking into this myself for exercise here one website to try http://www.outlettrail.com/schwinn...
I think you will like this and it will not have you swerving like a regular bike. If you get this pleas let me know I'm looking to get one myself after I talk to my Dr "

" My experience is it is to bumpy a ride plus I have to bend to much. It hurts. A bike that allows you to sit more upright might work. Mine is one of the skinny tired, types that requires you to bend to cut airflow. I had it prior to back issues. Try borrowing a bike and see how it goes, maybe one with big balloon tires and a big seat with springs. Stay on a smooth road at first to see if it is an OK thing to do. "
