Prestige disc replacement

Hi, My husband might get the Prestige artifical disc replacment for a disc in his neck at C3 and C4. He is waiting on workmans comp approval.

Surgery is scheduled for July 29, 2009.

I was just wondering if anyone has had this operation, and how is it going for you.

Have read that it is better than fusion because it doesn't put a strain on the other vertebrae.

" Sorry can't help you, but if I was you I would do a google search on prestige disc's. Just type: "problems or patient issues with prestige disc replacement's" and you will find there if anything has been posted on the net. Good luck to you both. "

" Thank you. I researched it and only found good results. It has only been in use for a couple of years.

One person had some numbness in arm occasionally which could have been caused from nerve damage before the replacement. "

" I recently had the prodisc artificial disc replacment in my lumbar back. The prestige is its equivalent for use in the spine. The are similar in design - metal plates with a plastic disc between. The prestige has a ball shaped disc and the prodisc has a flat disc. If you read the details in my about me section of my profile you can see the outcome. "

" I meant to say the prestige is its equivalent for use in the "neck" not spine. "

" Hi bm55,

Here are two artificial disc support boards filled with any and every question you may have. Very knowledgeable, helpful, learned people who've had ADR and are considering ADR there. There are several there who have had the prestige in their cervical for several years now.

ADRsupport.org: http://www.adrsupport.org/forums/i...

SpinePatientSociety: http://spinepatientsociety.org/forum/

Artificial disc replacement is shaping up to be the replacement for fusion. It was approved in US in 2004 but has been offered in Europe for 20+ years. As you mentioned the goal of ADR is to keep your mobility at the problem segment which helps prevent the premature wear on adjacent discs caused by fusion.

Imficics it may help provide context if you'd add a note to your story, before referring others to it, that your artificial disc was performed by a surgeon who had never performed an ADR surgery before. I think it would provide context and illustrate the importance of having a disc replacement performed by a doctor who's done one before. Let me know your thoughts there. "

" Okay thank you snow rider. You sound very well educated. These surgeons have performed the ADR replacements before at St. Joseph Heartland Hospital in Missouri.

Thank you for referring me to these other support groups. Have a nice 4th. "
