Neck fusion

I have a minimum of three herniated discs in my neck along with spodylosis. The doctors want to fuse but I also have osteopina and don't make bone very well. I have no choice but to fix the neck due to narrowing of the canal and the serious nature of these discs. What do they do if they can't fuse with bone? What sort of recovery is involved? What is the likelyhood of death, paralysis or complications?

That is a great idea! I don't know in what State you are in, but in the State of Florida and probably most States, you can get any type of malpractice information on a Doctor, Chiropractor, etc. on line for free.
In Florida you will also see if they had any reprimands from their board and what kind of boards they belong to and what kind of training and credentials they have. I will recommend to anyone that is contemplating surgery, to do a Google search on their Doc's. All I do is I type: "check for Doctor's credentials/malpractice in the State of Florida" and immediately I get the website to the health department that keeps track of that stuff in our State.

I am in louisiana and here they have special sites where you can do back ground checks on dr's all you need is the dr's name and his practice address. It also shows any other states they worked in. Tipper what part of fla. are you in? I grew up in Pensacola.

I am currently in Miami, but I was raised in Key West. Had to move here due to my back issues, because Doctor's and specialists are here. You are right. No one should pay for that type of report, most State's provides this info. for free.
Funny..... Someone yesterday in the pain site was talking about this NCR procedure that is been done by Chiro's now to eliminate chronic pain and I told her how dangerous this procedure is and how people have died of it, well...... she send me a message giving me her Chriro's name in Miami and how good he was and that I should try him, right?? Not that I would ever do that crazy NCR procedure! But anywho...... I checked the Doc and he had like 6 reprimands from the board, he is not certified by any board to do that dangerous procedure, plus he has like 3 pending malpractice litigations, Hmmmmmmm, check your Doc's people!!!

Hi,
If your getting doctor's who are not coming up with the same dx, wel then I would say that is your answer. Don't have the surgery! Also you don't sound like your sure either. The other thing you have to think about is that once your fused you will not be able to move your neck again, your frozen so to speak in that position. Debbie

You will be ok with the fusion method. The surgeons know what to do in a case like yours. I have the same problem but, i healed fine. They put a rod in to do the fusion. on me they took the graph from the hip. it doesnt bother you at all.
