As you can see from my profile I have been thru the wringer abit!! Currently am on fentanyl 75mg patch 1x evry 48 hours, hydrocodone 10/325mg x 4 day (back up pain-use all 4), and soma 350mg x 3 day. Yesterday I had my first ESI injection. I have all but 2 discs involved but my meck and shoulders and arms are most pronounced with pain and numbness. My ins only allows one injection every 4 weeks so we atarted at C7-T1.
I really ad a positive attitude that this was to be the answer. The shoulder pain has gone from all over to blocks of severe pain and then a block to mid arm, etc. The lower back pain has intensified from an 8 to a 9. he said not to worry that there are other stronger meds to try. Wat could they be. My general dr, neuro surgeon, pain management doctor and cardiologist have said that they do not want to do another surgery (have had one with fusion C6-C7 because of other health risks and the first one failed (the spinal canal was obstructed related to beam hardening artifacts due to size of patients shoulders Posted on 01/06/09, 06:01 am |

I'm sorry to hear you are going through so much. I had a 4 level spinal fusion (T10, T11, T12, L1) and a artificial disc replacment at my L5/S1. I was trampled by a horse and have extensive spinal and nerve damage. In my first physical therapy appt. after the disc replacment, 2 vertabra fractured and i'm on bed rest in hopes that they will fuse themselves - but its not looking good. I take 10 percocet a day 5/325. 2 pills every 4 hours, I take skelaxin, neurontin and vicodin and i'm still in so much pain at times on literally in tears. I'm sure the meds are killing my kidneys, but without them the pain is so severe I cant breathe. I've had every kind of shot and injection imaginable, and none have helped - most have made it worse. I see my doctor again on 1/29 and I'm going to insist he sends me to someone with more specialty in pain management. I'm a single mom of 2 with my own home and living like this is just impossible.

Hang in there and I wish you well! I know it's easier said than done. I had c6-7 fusion 7/08, prior was on fentanyl 75 mg every 48 hrs like you along w/other pain/muscle relaxers & injections. The surgery helped alot but still have alot of problems, I have a very strong feeling I have disc probs in my thoracic.
One word of caution, be careful on the fentanyl patch as it is a very potent drug but still didn't take my pain away enough. I really hope your injection helps and wish you the best!

Sorry that all of you are in so much pain, I totally know how you feel having over half of my spine fused from the bottom of my neck to my lower back (not sure which vertebrae) but they downgraded me to one narcotic and two muscle relaxers since I have terrible muscle spasms...I havent heard of the fent patch or soma...How have those worked for you all, I would like to mention those to my doc and see if he will try them. I have already tried Oxycontin, Percocet and Lortab and none of them seem to kill the pain for very long at all, and on top of that my hubby went back to work so I am the only one picking up my 30 lb. 1 1/2 year old which probably doesnt help with the pain. How have the other pain medicines helped you or which ones would you recommend that worked for you?
