i find that massage helps out at times and other times it makes the back feel so much worse.
When my fiance rubs he gets into this spot and afterwards i cant use my legs afterwards the massage. Other times when my back is playing up it makes the pain worse.Poor guy he tries. He gets into his usual spots and it's so painful.

I've gotten several massages since I brike my back, and massages always make the pain worse in the end. It helps during the massage and about 15 minutes after, but then the pain comes back 10 times worse than before to the point I've started throwing up because of the nasea. I've also had to get x-rays after one massage to make sure everything was okay, even though the massage therapist didn't massage to hard.

There are many benefits to massage;muscle relaxation, helps with spasms, removes toxins from your system, etc. I have structural issues (scoliosis) as well as four bad discs and I also suffer from lupus so my body hurts pretty much all the time:( By the middle of the day my muscles are so sore from trying to deal with the structural issues and often I am in spasms- the massage therapist is able to work on those specific areas to loosen them up. It is very important to drink lots of water after a massage as it releases toxins into your blood stream and you need to flush them out, otherwise you will feel like crap, kinda like you have the flu:( Hope this was helpful xoxoLyn

On an added note...if you can't afford a massage and are having a spasm use a tennis ball or a hard ball- place it between your back and the wall and then lean into it. Using your legs and body weight, gently lower yourself and and then rise moving the ball along the spine while leaning against the ball and wall- you control the amount of pressure and the site of the pressure- it's great for getting rid of trigger spasms! xoxoLyn

The benefit of massage on back pain, depends on the cause of the back pain. If someone has tight muscles, stiff muscles, or muscle spasms, then massage can help. If someone has bone damage, disc damage or nerve damage, massage can make matters much worse. I have extensive damage to bones, vertebra and nerves and a massage would leave me in great agony. Anyone considering massage for pain management should discuss it with their doctor first. A deep muscle massage on someone with nerve damage can increase pain that can last a lifetime.

I get severe muscle spasms in my back and neck and deep tissue massage helps relax the muscles and helps the pain for a day or more.

I go for regular massage, I have degenerative disk disease as well as severe arthritis and fibromyalgia. I agree that it's not right for everyone, however, a good therapist will always check in with you and ask if the pressure is ok, and tell you to tell them if it is painful. If you have bone, vertebra or nerve damage a very gentle massage can be relaxing. I use to do massage and there are several different modalities, not just sweedish or deep muscle. Of course check with your doctor first, even trepidation (gentle rocking motions) can be very relaxing to someone in pain. I swear by my massage, and my massage gal is worth her weight in gold a million times over!

It's absolute heaven to me. Im too lazy to go so I just stick to my heating pad and pain meds. But it all depends on the massuece (sp). If they hurt you then you can tell them to ease up. I do. Hope this helps. I just joined here.xoxo
