" From personal experience please research it completely before making your decision. Decide if the benefits outweigh the cons. Do what is right for you. "

" Wiser words cannot be spoken: "please research it completely" I agree, cat!

A lumbar puncture is a spinal tap (same thing). It's a diagnostic procedure thats done to collect a sample of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for analysis.

The bottom line is the the same with many of these types of procedures: Myelogram, Discogram, Lumbar puncture, is the same:

*If performed properly* serious complications are extremely rare. When they do occur, however, they are often serious. The key is having a doctor who genuinely values your health first -- everything else should be secondary (time, compensation, pride).

If I wait too long at appointments, have my files misplaced, or generally sense a doctor not being present in conversation.. I thank them for their time, shake hands, and walk out.

Demanding quality health care results in quality health care. As a note, I find female doctors far, far more atune and careful than males. Let the doc know you know what is being performed and there is no room for error. "

" thank you for your responses;.......I have researched it, even watched a cou)ple of videos on it, and for someone who dislikes needles, I'm sorry I did, anyway, he seems a genuine guy, has been very upfront with me, but i have no idea of he is any good at it .....I was wondering how 'rare' are the cases afterwards and will it add anyway longterm to a lot of back pain I already have. I find specialists can be one minded in their area of medicine at times. i wonder are women better because some may have suffered the pain of childbirth and so recognise real pain ? "
