Sleeping on the sofa...a little less miserable.
Sleeping on the floor on some folded blankets...actually not bad, seems to be the only thing that consistently helps the pain. However I worry about creepy crawlies, and also it gets cold down there.

Not memory foam ... but, 100% organic natural latex.
This is the only type of mattress I can tolerate.
I will say this. Sealy was bought by Tempurpedic in 2012 so I think that tempur's technology crosses over with Sealy now. I have had it for a little over a month and all I can say is AWESOME sleep.
BTW, I have DDD, osteo, 5 bulging in my thoracic spine, a scs and a cervical fusion. I can say I sleep like a baby on this thing. I don't toss and turn anymore because it is so comfortable.
