back pain

I had back pains in the right side of my back for 7 years and had physio and acupuncture. no obvious spinal problems , no inflammation because anti-inflammatories do not work, pain killers do very little, the pain is there all the time and in the mornings is the worse because any movement is painful and even walking is painful but after a few hours get to a more manageable state. Doctors do not help much other than painkillers, if someone recognize these symptoms, please contact me.

" Hi Marino and sorry that you have gone so long without a reply. Just an FYI, the chronic pain forum is far more active than this one.

As for your symptoms... sounds like arthritis to me. More stiff in the morning, better throughout the day as you move around more etc. Does it also become really uncomfortable during very cold weather? It may or may not but, arthritis is what I would think.

The only other thing I could think of is an extra rib. If you have one, it can create a pinching during the night as you lay down. Then, in the am after you move around and such...your torso becomes more stretched allowing it some room??

I have seen both so...those are my only thoughts. I hope that you are able to find some answers and receive some help. "

" I have the same problem but cannot get help with pain killers. I have swelling also it stumps me. I couldn't even get my dr. to do a blood test for arthritis to see if that's what it is. Any help you get let me know. I hate the spinal injections they really hurt. Good luck "

" I have had this for years and was told fibromyalgia, then MS, now with MRI found I have 4 ruptured disc's with 2 of them pressing on my spinal cord causing cord compression. I think the things that cause back pain are so numerous so dr's sometimes don't know what to do with us. I was actually getting MRI for identification of lesions from MS and low and behold I was hit with this so good luck and I hope you find out what it is. "

" Hi Marino,
I have BP which is mainly on the lower right side. I have had MS for about 25 years, with no major disability. My acupuncturist has hypothesized that the damaged nerves in my brain send a constant low-grade signal to my back muscles. They never completely relax. Over the years, the tendons in my back have weakened, further stressing the muscles. I have undergone Prolotherapy (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/... which has caused some changes (maybe improvements, but I am still experiencing pain). The most noticeable improvement is the cessation of a cracking noise (another member informed me that this is called Crepitus). This is good for me, because I am doing more exercise now. The noise worried me, and I was reluctant to move my spine.

Hope this adds to your data base. Sue

" Well, the first thing is the workup for arthritis, blood xrays, but when I first read your request.. I thought fibromyalgia, none of the Nsaids work for fibro, if you do hard work it doesn't get better with resting overnight, first things drs like to give for this are antidepressant family meds.. they say deep sleep is restorative, I found it overkill and hurt more from too much sleep and not enough movement, if it does turn out to be fibro, get involved in some gentle exercise, swimming, walking, yoga, but stretching is a good thing, warm shower and get moving, I figure the arthritis and auto accidents are what triggered mine, took me 20+ years to fight back, I hurt all the time but take low level narcodic pain meds, gabapentin, among a few other things, I also take herbal energy suppliments, vitamines are good for you cause stress makes life painful. Please contact me if you like, best wishes on you journey, never give up.. its your life. "

" My boyfriend is in constant pain and it is getting worse. The drs have done CT scan and MRI and say they can see nothing wrong. He has had Kypoplasty done on compressed vertabrae but still has pain in soft tissue beside his vertabrae. We are desperate for help. He is on pain meds and he has had steriod shots. Nothing is helping. Does anyone have any suggestions??? "

" My lower back pain is the worst when I first get out of bed...hurts so very much then. The more I move around and walk the less accute pain. The chronic pain stays all day. I had a muscle injury in Jan. and I just cannot get it healed.
Ice and heat do seem to help. I hope you find a diagnosis!!! Healing thoughts for you! "

" Muscle relaxants might be worth a try. Muscle spams are commonly part of back pain. "

" Hi,
I'd like to ask how much water you drink and what you diet is like?
Ive had back pain which included muscle spasms which I haven't had for years now. Now I sometimes get muscle stiffness after playing sports.
In the past I have tried everything from Physio, Pilates, core exercises, yoga, chriopractors, massages. They all had some benifits but I found them to be temporary. Changes in what I eat and drink has seemed to given me the best relief. But this is different for everyone. "
