Torn Disks

Pain has increased in my back so my doc ordered yet another MRI. This time it showed two torn disks. I have had this problem before with one disk and it just healed it's self. My doctor said that I need to rest it as much as possible to let it heal or it could get worse. Just curious if anyone else has had experience with this?

Hi - I can only speak of my experience, but backs can be very strange. I have torn discs and they cause me no pain. Finally after 3 and a half years of testing and procedures, the doctor I have now finally discovered that my pain source was somewhere else completely. He told me that MRIs are deceptive because doctors see tears etc. and assume automatically that they are the problem. My doctor discovered my issue when he saw that the location of the discs and the location of my pain were in 2 different places. If the area where your disc looks bad is the same area where you have pain, then you able to be sure that this is the source of your pain. If your pain does not abate in a couple of weeks, you should return to your doctor to follow up, and I would recommend a second opinion, just because backs are so mysterious. Good luck!
