I have severe back pain, and I also have gastritis and GERD. So my problem is I can't take Ibuprofen, Alive, Aspirin etc. for my back pain because it makes my stomach burn really bad but the my back pain is consistent. Does anyone know of another effective pain reliever that is easy on the stomach?

Hi Kisses25. I read your post, and I can't think of any other pain relievers other than those which need prescriptions. Have you checked with you doc about other pain relief options? Sorry this support group runs a little slowly these days...I hope you haven't been frustrated due to lack of response. I also hope you feel better and find a pain med that works for you.

Try Gabapentin if you havent already, it works some if you dont take too much, if you take too much, it can cause depression I've noticed....

hi, have you tried, soma, or just plain codeine pills. Drs. today are so reluctent to try the simplest options out there, if you are having severe muscle pain that goes hand in hand with back pain at times a low dose of valium is an excellent pain reliever. Dont let them talk you into anti depressants which seems to be the in thing right now. You could eeven try taking the meds with mylanta, to help coat Hugs

I find that hydrocodone is tolerable after the initial few days of adjustment to it (slight nausea that goes).. I also had trouble with the OTC's with an esophogeal ulcer.

Hi Kisses25,
I saw your problem. Please don't take drugs like ibuprofen, aspirin etc, because they might lead to severe side effects in future. The best advise I can give for you is to consult a eminent chiropractor.Or you can consult with http://www.irehab.com/. My dealer said they gave some sort of customized back pain treatment to him a couple of months back. He told It was quite good, thats why I recommended it. Pls don't forget to give me the feedback. Thanks,

I have gastritis and oesophagitis and so the usual NSAIDS are ruled out. Lately I have had some success with Panado osteo. No adverse affects on GI system.
I live in Australia, so I don't know it's trade name elsewhere.

I have had the same issues. I am taking Celebrex daily (had to get special approval from my insurance), which helps some with the daily aches and pains. They do have a lower dose of SOMA that I have been able to take at work from time to time if the pain is really bad. Otherwise when I get home from work I can take Flexeril or Vicodin but that puts me to sleep. the hardest thing is finding something to manage pain and still be able to function during the day! I also have an electronic muscle stimulator that I can attach to my back that helps if I am in a really bad phase. I've noticed that my pain comes and goes in phases. I can go for a couple months just using Celebrex and then another month or so of extreme pain. I'd love to hear what others do for this if they also experience this.

wendalynn I am glad that you mentioned using EMS. After I posted a reply yesterday, I realised that I had ommitted to mention TENS and also now I have a portable interferential machine. Kisses have you tried either of these? No side effects whatever. I do get electrode burns even though I am using non allergenic electrodes. But there are no systemic probs.
