well my doc told me i should try methadone b/c the others like oxycontin, avinza, and fentynl made me feel like a zombie and he said that other patients that had a similar complaints had success with it. i just don't know whether or not to try it. i hate withdrawls. i once stopped fentynl & hydrocodone cold turkey for 1 year b/c my doc unexpectantly stopped prescribing and while i felt as if i could accomplish anything accomplishing that, it took a piece of my soul. absolutely the worst experience i've had and to sum things up, i am petrified to go through that again. im on lortab10s now alongside ultram and while my quality of life is better than without, i still am in too much pain to work. any stories or advice would greatly be appreciated.

I am currently on Methadone, 40 Mg's a day. The medication does not make me sleepy, woozy or anything like that. I am able to function, drive, etc .... But, I know of people that were put on Methadone and they were nodding off all of the time and couldn't handle it. We are all different and our system's handle the different medications differently. I will say, give it a try. Is an excellent pain killer and it has long term effects since it stores in your fatty tissues and muscles. Good luck,

Well I was on Methadone for almost 5 years and let me tell you the withdrawls from that are severe, I had my SCS implanted in December of 2006 and then told my Doctor to get me off of the Methadone did it manage my pain yes did it improve my quality of life No! I traded my personality in for pain relief, the methadone while not making me a total Zombie did take its toll my short term memory was terrible on it, I repeated my self all the time, I had issues with mood swings, and I went from being nice and mild mannered to short tempered and ill mannered, the withdrawals lasted for three months quitting cold turkey almost killed me and I ended up in the hospital the withdrawal symptoms of Methadone are almost identical to those of heroin as Methadone is Synthetic Heroine the difference is that the addiction to methadone is a physical one as there is no high if prescribed at the correct dosage for pain relief, in other words your body craves the drug its not a mental addiction like gee I need to get high. Understanding that we need pain meds to function is the first step then finding a class of pain reliever is the next I have a fantastic pain management Dr. i have seen that is his only practice and he hates to see his patients hurt I dont know if this will help with your decision but good luck!

well generally speaking, i think the Perc. is stronger, however I tried it once and it didn't help me as much as the lortab. everyone is different so I guess the best advice I can give is to ask ur Doc and give it a try.
