I have been a police officer in Ontario, Canada for 29 years. In 1985 an impaired driver hit my cruiser killing 3 people and leaving me with C6 fracture, pelvic fracture and assorted other injuries that have led to life in pain, PTSD symptoms and depression. I dealt with pain through the years with assorted narcotics. In 2004 I was put on M-Eslon(morphine). This past December I went off the morphine and ended up in hospital with major withdrawal. Since then I've lived everyday in hell from the pain at +8 or higher. Doctor has been treating me with various non-narcotic meds with negative results. I'm 52 yrs old and feel like I'm 90. Where do I go from here.

first off welcome, i am pretty new too. i am learning a lot on this siter. i am so sorry to hear about your ordeal. i don't know where you go from here, does your dr. not want you on narcotics due to the morphine? have you got a pain specialist to assist you in finding a combination of meds. that help you cope with the pain? i understand what you are going through i injured my back in the marines at 19 now 38 and had 2 back surgeries and still with horrible pain every day. i am currently on demeral and i am afraid i have built up a tolerance to it. i am going to have the spinal stimulator next. hopefully i will get some much needed releif with it. i don't have much advise other than find the right pain specialist. hope you feel better, welcome and hang in there. koilover

Welcome to the ds back pain.Hi how are you ???
Sounds like your in alot of pain. I would ask my doctor for a referal to the pain clinic. They will be able to treat your back pain differently than the doctor an use different painkillers than morphine.

Welcome to the newbies. You have found a great site. I am sorry for your pain. Search the post for information similar to yours. Somebody on here has been there. Don't forget your stretches. That helps more than anything. Chiropractors have a table that helps with non evasive spine treatment. This is worth the visit. But most of all we are here for you.

Hi, im new here to and have been out with back for over 4 years. My Dr and I went through that many differant med's B4 he put me on morf: and yes the come down is hell when you run out. I did the drug thing when I was yonger and swore I would never go back but then my back happened and here i am again. My Dr say's im dependent on them not addicted but I don't see the diff: because if you run out you get same withdrawal is just the same but when I don't have any med's my pain go through the roof, so I think it is the lesser of 2 evil's.

You need to ask your Doctor to refer you to a pain management Doctor. My best friend is in Canada and I know how difficult it is to get good health care and Doctor's appointments in your part of the world. I am currently on Methadone for my chronic pain. Methadone is a synthetic opiod that works excellent for pain. I hope that you and your Doctor can find a solution to your chronic pain. You are very young to be suffering this much, you still have lots to give, so hopefully the right treatment will bring you back to a more productive and pain free life. Good luck to you.
