What do you really attribute your childs ASD to?
For me I would have to say multiple misdiagnosis by my OB.... With my first I had hypothyroidism....not diagnosed although all the usual complaints were there ....he had a prenatal stroke and now has Apraxia.... Ette came next and my hypothyroid turned in to full blown Graves disease...which is known to cause neruologic damage, and was ignored by doctors...and er go Ettes Autism.... My third pregnancy came after radioactive iodine treatment to cure my graves....I wasnt told it could cause chromosonal damage...and now I am the proud parent of a daughter with Downs.... It seems to me that if my simply fixable thyroid problem was properly managed from the get go...especially since 3 out of 5 pregnant women suffer from undiagnosed thyroid problems and Graves disease....My kiddos could have been spared.... Anyone else have a theory? Not looking for a fight here.....I know alot of parents out there blame vaccines....Im looking for the other theories...but feel free to post your opinion..... The fact is that there is not enough proof to say that vaccines cause Autism. Seeing how the trates of Autism have been around long before vaccines they are the unlikely main cause. But there is no proof that vaccines are not a cause. Maybe Autism is dew to selective breeding. And because the world is over populated humans naturally develop weakening defense to prevent the world from imploding under all the pressure of human mass. Rabbits breed in mass numbers because they are killed off in mass numbers. They don’t need to be smart because they survive be breeding in mass numbers.

You know hun...I really don't know. I have vowed to keep my mind open until they figure out a cause....which will lead to a cure.
It really does sound like you're could have been preventable and it saddens me to no end that your children had to suffer. As for me, I had excellent prenatal care for the boys. So, I really don't think that was the cause. Though at one point through my acceptance of autism process I wondered if Andypant's got his from a traumatic birth. I failed to progress after a bad epidural and nearly crashed as the epidural ended up becoming a spinal block and I was numb up to my shoulders....I could barely breath. But then her comes Awesome little Danno....smooth sailing pregnancy...and he has it too. So, my thoughts tend to drift off to somehow our kiddos are predisposed to it. As for now, my energy is spent on getting the kids the proper treatments, advocating and supporting Autism. As they grow older, that may change. But I do love reading about others stories. It's all so intriguing to me.

I am sorry but I am not suffering. I am depressed because I am Autistic. I have learned to life a full life. Things may be harder for me the most children but I can still learn and be happy. SO I didn't talk until 4? It was like one day every thing made sense and I could understand fully. That is how I learn things and I am not suffering. I may have to reread books to understand them but I am not suffering.

i think there are many causes. i'm really not into genetics being the sole cause. with autism statistics now at 1 in 100, i just think that there are just too many for it to be solely a genetic cause.
i can only speak from my experience. for my son, i would say a couple of things . i think the environment plays a huge role in it. where we lived at the time that my son was diagnosed, we lived in an area that had a steel mill, oil refinery , chemical plant. you were told that if you fished in the local river, to not eat the fish because of the high content of mercury in the water. for my son, it didn't start until 18 months and once i started to suspect it, it was approximately another month to get the mri, eeg, and blood work done and then another six months to get him into a specialist. a lot of time went by and to be honest, i really thought i was dealing with terrible two's as far as the aggression. I just didn't make the connection. so yeah, i do think vaccines played a part but i also think environmental triggers also played a big part.
