My son who is now 6yrs was diagnosed with autism at the start of last year, even before he was diagnosed my friend list was sadly drooping. Other parents were quick to judge how he acted and i soon got sick of whispers and the rolling of eyes when he would start melting when we were out. So I have become a home body but with doing that i have lost all the people that i use to hang out with (not that its a huge loss).
Im lucky to have great support from my family who have been there through everything with us. But it would be nice to talk to other people us well especially people who are in a similar boat to me. im going to stop my rambling now, but if you would like friend me or chat that would be great i'll try not to talk to much hehe. i hate when people are so quick to judge without knowing the situation, real friends would try to understand and be of some help to you but i guess it's easier to avoid situations and thats sad, you do have to find time for yourself, this is a great site lots of info and you can vent all you like

Hi welcome to the group!
I think most of us have that problem. My boy is 5 and we just know the people who smile and understand are the only ones who count. Hang out here, there will always be someone who understands and support you!

You say you've lost a lot of your friends, but believe me they weren't real friends in the first place, if they don't want to know you now, a friend should be there through the ups and downs.
You will find good friends, but don't let it get you down, message me if you ever wanna chat, take it easy x

i agree with maggsb, true friends are with you even when you need them not only when they need you, sometimes people don't kmow how to act around others that are different from the way they think they should be, whats going on with this world anyway, makes me sad.

I think I can understand where you're coming from. Most of my friends are from my church, but most of them also live a good half hour from me so I don't see them very often. A lot of my support comes from online.
