Great News! HSA can pay for more!

I was just so happy that I did my homework!

We can use our HSA to pay the 'parental fee' for the medical assistance (TEFRA) that allows our kids to get the services that they need. Both ABA and PCA care!

I called our HSA Bank to find out if this was even possible. They advised me that it's is under specific circumstances.
1- paying for cobra
2- if you became unemployed and had to pay (?) isn't that cobra?
3- if you are 65yrs or older
4- Long term care.

I asked what long term care was and she gave me a vague definition. So I hung up with her and looked it up. IT's a PCA!

So, I called back, and they offered me the number to the IRS. And after talking with this man and sharing with him what our Tefra pays for, he said YES, it was covered and he provided me the section of regulation number for our records.

I am just thrilled about this! And I wanted to share this with all of you who have set up an HSA account.

Okay, I think I could actually LOVE the IRS again!

" I know this post is over a year old, but I was just searching out if our HSA could pay for our Parental fee or not and I came across this post so I registered to ask you more about it :)

Could you share the section of the regulation number so I can look in to it further and see if it would also apply to us?

We have MA-TEFRA for both of our children. For one child we use it for medical appointments and medicatoins. The other child has a waiver, so aside from medical we have support staffing for him and use the waiver to purchase visual supports and sensory supports. I am hoping that we can start using our HSA for our parental fee too.

Anything you can share will be GREATLY appreciated!! "
