Sue, I asked my doc about a "pill in the pocket" when I went into A.F.
and he said that I was not a candidate. He did not elaborate. However, I have not seen it mentioned by the folks on this site.
Perhaps I may have missed it though. In the summer I was having episodes lasting anywhere from 1 - 3 hours it seemed every day.
The EP put me on a beta blocker twice a day with my propafenone.
Although I am getting breakthroughs they are tolerable and usually lasting a minute or two.

Prophafnone is one of the oill in a pockets drugs. I was on both and they worked for a while. Now that I have the ablasion done I am still on flecanaide for just a few months until they know how the surgery took.

My EP had me use Atenolol as a "PIP or Pill in Pocket". I was on 180mg of Sotalol, 240mg of Cardizem daily. If and when I went into a-fib, I took 25mg of Atenolol when needed. I was allowed to take up to 50mg of Atenolol when needed.

I have used Propafenol as a "pill in the pocket" for two years. It converts me to normal rythmm after about 2 hours. I use it only as needed.
