Has anyone had success with alternative medicine. ie..accupuncture, aromatherapy, hypnosis, meditation, etc. I don't want a cardioversion or an ablation. From what I read here and on other sites, cardioversion is like putting a bandaid on your heart. It doesn't last. Ablasion is scary to me and hope to find something else that works. Also, does afib run in families? My sister had it really bad and had cardioversions and ablasion but she did not get well. Eileen

A-fib can run in families. I found meditation helped the severity of my a-fib episodes. It helped me to relax.

I believe afib has a lot to do with genetics. My mother had it and my brother and I have it. My mother lived to be 85. All of the doctors that I've talked to say that people without afib don't live any longer than those with afib but it is importaant to take some kind of blood thinner to prevent stroke. If it doesn't bother you why try to fix it?
I agree with the band aid and cardiovert comparison. I had cardiovert done and afib came back in six hours. Like you, the thought of having a hole punched through my heart and scars burnt on the inside scares the hell out of me. As long as I feel good and can ride my bike and do yoga, I'll pass ablation.
