Has anyone tried Maltaq?

I'm taking beta blockers, CCB, ACE inhibitors, Clonopin, and Pravastatin. I'm in permanent AF but I don't notice it as much as I did. My bp is around120/80 and HR 70-80. A new drug called Maltaq has came out and my MD says I could try it. Does anyone know about this drug?

" I found this website. It might be of some help although they don't say an awful lot about what it acutally does:

There's not very much about this drug as it is so new. "

" Thanks Hidss. I've read similar reports to this one but was really wanting to know if anybody has tried it and how it worked for them. I guess because it is so new there a very few folks who have used it. "

" I am currently taking dronedarone which is from Multaq--it's the drug you are referring to...I have been on it for a little less than a month with ZERO side affects, which is huge. This drug is an off-shoot of amiodarone without the toxic iodine.I have been on amiodarone,in the past, and while I did not go into a-fib when I was on it,I felt like CRAP all the time-(dizzy--light headed)THE LONG TERM SIDE AFFECTS ARE DEADLY...I know it takes awhile to get into my system but I have only had one episode since I have been taking it.Researching the drug,I found it has been on the market for 10-12 years with good results. It was only available in Europe and was just approved (USDA--FDA) for use in the US in early July---I will keep you posted.Hang in there.. " Hi Bobdixon,
This is quite a coincidence because I just started Maltaq (dronedarone) today. I'm hoping for good results. Keep in
touch. "

" This morning, five days after taking Maltaq, my blood pressure is 124/75 and pulse 50. The afib seems to be gone. I am due to see the doc on the 18th for EKG. Things are looking up. "

" I had an EKG yesterday and my heart is still in afib. The dr. said to continue taking the Martaq and do a second cardiovert sometime in Oct. If it doesn't stay in rhythm after the cardiovert he said we will discuss options which will probably do either an ablation or live with a fib.
The truth is, afib doesn't bother me all that much. I can do just about anything I want to. "

" Update on Multaq. I hiked trails and attended yoga classes at 10,000 feet in Colorado the last week in Sept. and felt great. My heart seemed to be in rhythm, but I don't know for sure w/o an EKG to prove it. I have a doctor's appt. this Tuesday (10/13/09). I feel I don't need a cardiovert right now but when I get in the waiting room I usually get nervous and my heart starts acting up. So, we will see what happens. Wish me luck. God bless everyone of you. "

" I was nervous having my EKG done yesterday. It showed that my heart was in afib. However, the doctor didn't seem concerned about it and said he didn't think I should have a cardiovert done. Since I feel good and can do the things I do, he said forget the cardiovert. He also said that I should continue taking Maltaq if it makes me feel better. Right now, while writing this, I feel great and my heart seems to be in rhythm. "

" Thank you for your comments Lawrence. I think the Maltaq is helping, along with all of the other meds I'm taking. I'm continuing to exercise (biking, yoga, and light weights) and taking supplements (vit. C, Fish Oil, MSM, iron, multiple minerals, multi vitamin, Taurine, and CoQ-10). "
