Advice:
I just had an ablation and still feel symptoms

Hi there. I'm brand new to DS. I was recently diagnosed with psvt and had an ablation this tuesday. The doctor seemed pleased with the results but I was still hospitalized overnight because he feared bleeding in the region they did the surgery.

Today, besides feeling a little sore, I'm getting tiny palpitations. Nothing serious or prolonged, but momentary flutters, maybe a half dozen. This is a bit unsettling to me. Is this normal?

Medications for psvt: I am currently taking 50mg of metoprolol, although I stopped for 3 days before the surgery. I was also taking 20 mg of warfarin twice a day but the doctor told me to stop a week ago. When I took these two medications daily my symptoms (palpitations, racing heartrate) were controlled.

Other medical conditions/medications: I take 10mg of lisinopril for blood pressure and 5/500 mg of glipizide/metformin for type 2 diabetes.

" It is very common to have some palps or pvc's or whatever after an ablation. Your heart has been aggreviated, and needs time to heal. My EP told me it could take up to 6 months for your heart to fully calm down. Give it time. RIght after my ablation I too had 2 bouts of a-fib and a ton of pvc's and pac's. I guess it was about the 3 month post procedure that I noticed my heart calmed down to the point that I didn't notice anything. Now, I hardly get any pvc's or pac's, and thankfully I've been a-fib free.
Good Luck in you recovery. "

" Thank you very much, pate65 and jbtwin. I HOPE it's over. I had symptoms of a racing heartbeat for no apparent reason and feeling like my heart was doing flip flops. After a couple of months of this at least a few times a day I went to the emergency room.

Once I got on warfarin and metoprolol for 2 weeks my symptoms all but disappeared. There was a great temptation to do nothing more but my doc said medication was only masking the problem and that my heart could still be getting weaker so I went with the ablation. The hardest part of the procedure was staying still for hours. I have arthritic knees that don't like to stay still. It was tough. "
