meds after ablation?

I am recovering from an ablation. The EP put me back on my anti-arrythmic meds for a couple months. (I was hoping to be finished with them.)Was this the norm for everyone else who had an ablation. I guess it is sort of "wait and see" when you finally come off the meds?

" I had an ablation for a-fib & flutter at Univ of Penn in January 08. My EP kept me on the same meds I was on before the ablation(Sotalol,Cardizem and Coumadin) until my 6 month follow up in August. That is when he took me off the Sotalol and changed my meds to Toprol 25mg twice a day, Cardizem and Coumadin. At this time he sent me home with a 30 day event monitor to make sure my heart was staying in NSR while off the Sotalol. In December he lowered the Toprol to 25mg once a day. I go back to him in March and that is when he will take me off the Toprol and Cardizem altogther(hopefully). He will also have me wear another 30 day monitor to see that my Heart rate is okay being off the meds. I will still have to be on Coumadin for another 6 months after I am off the heart meds. He told me this was just a precaution since I had a very rapid a-fib. I've come across people who have had ablations and were kept on the meds for some months after and then I've talked to people who after their ablations were sent home with no meds. I guess it depends on the EP. "
