I have only had asthma for a few years and I have not had a major attack yet. It would get really bad when I was around cats. But the other day was different. I was at work sitting at my desk and I just felt chest tightness so I used my inhaler but that didn't help. I felt like I ran a marathon and I was sitting. I ended up going to the doctor and it got under control. It was just scary bc i had never experienced it before.

" I'm sorry that you had a major attack. They can be very scary indeed. Do you think that it's time to get tested for allergies again? What happened that was different? Was someone smoking or wearing too much cologne?
Also are you on a daily preventer like advair of symbicort? It may be time to ask your physician about it.
Hope you feel better,
Tom "

" These things happen - The same happened to me about 3 weeks ago.
Without warning at work I had a sudden chect tightening and pain.I thought it might be a heart attack so I went to the ER and they checked me out.
I hsve also had Cardio tests ( ECG attached to me on a treadmill) and I was cleared. Nobody knows what it was. Possibly a panic attack but who knows. Just get attention asap "

" I have had asthma since I was born and I am now 27 so I am a veteran of this, but it never stops being scary! I had an attack a few weeks ago, bad enought to seek medical attention and although I got sorted out it still didn't stop it being horrible and scary!

I think that maybe you need to speak to your doctor about your inhalers as it may be that they just need changing or the dosage isn't quite right, as was the case with me andit is all getting sorted!
Did you feel unwell at all? It may be that you have a slight chest infection which may have bought on the attack and made your inhalers not as affective as normally they would be.

Feel free to talk ayntime and I really hope you feel better soon :o) "

" Thanks for the support! I recently moved so Iam in the process of finding a new doctor but when i do I will probably go in and have my meds checked. The doctor figured it was probably a ung infection that set it off. I am doing much better, just coughing a lot with a cold. I am on symbicort and singulair. Does anyone have the problem of remembering to take meds? If I forget Ifigure once time isn't goingto harm anything but then I sometimes I get in the habit of it. What do you do so that you remember? " I have two sets of inhalers - one I keep in may handbag all the time and the other on my bedside table along with my peak flow metre and tablets that I have to take, all of which are next to my alarm clock!
I get into the habit of waking up and doing my peak flow then take my inhalers and tablets before I do anything else. It's the first thing I see when I wake up so it's hard not to remember!! I always take my tablets straight after as if I don't drink anything after taking my inhalers it can give me really sore throat.
At night I do the same but just the last thing before I go to sleep!!
Having the two sets is what I have found has always helped me as I don't have to remember to take them out of my bag and then put them back. Which is good as I have a really terrible memory!!!
Get into a routine as quickly as possible thats my advice. I was really lucky as my mother was a nurse and the fact that I have had it since I was born meant that she got me into a great routine.
Unfortunately I ruined it all when I was a teenager as I sort of got out of the routine and it really did make a difference, but I am back into it now and it does work.

But try two sets and keep the set you keep at home in a place that you will always see them to remember - whether that is on your bedside table like me or with your breakfast things, wherever is best for you!

I hope you get sorted with your doctor soon :o)
