Hi ,
I have been suffering from asthma for last 2 years and asthma really sucks. The other night, i couldn't seem to breathe right. My friend kept making me laugh a lot. i took too much of my inhaler, and got the shakes, and had a hard time sleeping. Just thought i would share...most of the time my asthma is under control but it reared its ugly head in the last few days... Posted on 07/09/09, 05:07 am |

I get the shakes too but usually from the nebulizer. It is not a good feeling either- hope you feel better soon!

Hey All,
I was researching about asthma and got some information which causes asthma attacks. Thought of sharing with you all which is helpful to all of us. According to the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and other organizations, triggers for asthma include the following: Allergens * pollen * mold * animal protein (dander, urine, oil from skin) * house dust/dust mites * cockroaches * certain foods Irritants * strong odors and sprays, such as perfumes, household cleaners, cooking fumes, paints, and varnishes * chemicals such as coal, chalk dust, or talcum powder * air pollutants * changing weather conditions, including changes in temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, and strong winds * Chemical-exposure on the job, such as occupational vapors, dust, gases, or fumes. Smoke *Tobacco smoke, whether directly or passively inhaled, has been shown to worsen asthma. *Wood smoke from wood-burning heating stoves and fireplaces can release irritating chemicals such as sulfur dioxide.

Sorry Jessibrown,
Maybe everyone is caught up with their summer fun. I know that I have been less active. You posted a great list. In my case, my asthma is triggered mostly by irritants, fragrances, overexertion, temperature extremes and...laughing. I will try to participate more. Tom

My pulmo doc shared something interesting with me...said God is good to asthmatics in that if we can't handle the heat, we can handle the cold and if we can't handle the cold, we can handle the heat. In my case at least, he's right. I was a skier and LOVED the winter...now we're moving to Florida - I feel great down there. Breezes off the Gulf of Mexico keep the air clean.

Part of what can trigger asthma in hot weather, for folks in urban areas, is elevated levels of ozone, which is formed when polluted air gets heated up. I make it a point to check the ozone patterns (which seem to peak in our area around 4:30 pm) on this site: http://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action... so I know when to stay inside.
