" Some Docs are just dumb. I had reconstructive surgery on my foot, and I am allergic to penicillin. The ortho insisted I take massive infusions of penicillin so I didn't get an infection in the bones - which had pins drilled down 5 inches. I didn't want an infection inside the bone, so I gave in, and went into anaphylactic shock in post-op. When I begged them to switch meds, they loaded me up on benedryl, and gave me two more infusions. Never again!

Hope you are recovering. I thought singulair was an inhaler. Is that the form you took it in? I've never tried it - I need the atrovent more than the ventolin, and I also take Advair, and my medical plan didn't cover it when it first came out, so I never tried it. "

" I took singular as a pill.
I knew I was allergic but did not expect this almost deadly response.
A code was called. The only reason I know is that there were some staff saying they were from the "emergency response team" and there were soooooooooooooo many people in my room, near my room, just a little further and then at the nurses station and some down the hall wall.

They we all calling department heads due to not having a doc response and then the doc arguing with them too once they did get him on the line.

They were gonna put me in ICU and used a bi-pap like bagging someone and that helped a lot. They said I was too tired to keep breathing without support. Then the changes worried me cuz I was not experienced. They said they have me on a very high number for the amount of support they wanted. This machine was deciding when I could inhale and exhale. I knew the next step was intibation (sp) and I didn't like that idea.

Anyway, I'm so glad to be out of there. "

" I forgot to mention that this nut doc thinks I have some component of Emphysema.

GREAT! Don't ya need more than a blood test and chest xrays?
I think I will ask for a lung biopsy so I will really know what I need for treatment.

I do know something terrible has changed with my lungs.
It's like going from 75 to almost 0 in functionablility.
This causes emotional conflict within myself. "

" Ditto...I have been there. Infections can do that to us. Hope you are getting better every day. I think I'd do PF & bronchoscope brushing to see what is going on. Sounds like you were already in trouble when you experienced the allergic reaction. Hope you are doing better...you sound better. "

" PF = pulmonary function test?
bronchoscope brushing WOW this sounds painful and scary.
How do they do it?

I was in desperate trouble before the reaction.
That's the reason my doc called 911 while I was in her office.
Then it took a very long time to get any stability in the ER and never enough stability so they made me an in patient.

Then there were more screw ups in the hosp.

My mind is more clear because I have taken it upon myself to use the c-pap even while awake because it appears give me the pursed lip effect that I cannot do because it's too hard on me. So this is effortless on my part with fabulous bennifets. Then I am back on the dirarettics and wow what a difference in air supply and balance.

Oh, I wanted to mention that the migrain seems to leave while on this c-pap so I need to talk to the doc about it.

I've been having headaches and they are getting worse.
I'm likely going to ask for a ct and mri.
I know young people who've had strokes from only taking pain meds. I don't have an interest in more disabilities.

I did pick up the Sprivia last night. It's $300.00 till I get reimbursed and well worth it, if it's gonna help me.

I CANNOT believe I have been using this obvious LOUD walker.
It's better than being on the ground out where all can see.

I am considering buying an electric cart and not doing it so that I am not making a rash financial decision. The urge is hard to resist. LOL

Thanks so much for the support.
I really need people to support me right now.
I know I would be at the bottom of a bowl without you folks.
Thanks again.

" You get good drowsey drugs during the bronchoscopy and they 'stir' things up, flush it around & capture samples through suctioning. It's not painful, doesn't require an anesthetic (only sedation) and lessens a chance of needing a chest tube because of a procedure. It is more like having a throat culture with a swab then having a snippet of your tonsil for biopsy. Does that explain it better ? "

" Thanks Ohana,
Yep, thats more clear and I believe I'll do what will help me know what I have so I can get the most correct treatment.

I think I'll have a fight on my hands with the answer being, oh we will give you the same treatment anyway.

I think I will request a specialist.
That's normally something I have no intrest in at .
Thank you.

:) "

" you may want to ask for a bronchial lavage to find out what is going on.

Also if you ahve suffered with ongpoing difficult to control asthma for sometime the lungs become very scarred and cause permenant obstruction where as the asthma causes a reversible obstruction. This is probably why your dr thinks they could be a component of copd.

Also rememebr copd is an umbrella term for chronic obstrucitve diseases. there are many diseases which fall under it.
